This year's MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) is just days away, and much like the recent MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), the EMAs look set to be dominated by female artists.
Out of the 11 artists with the most nominations for the upcoming awards ceremony, which will take place at Co-op Live Arena in Manchester on November 10th, 10 are women. And pop megastar Rita Ora is set to host.
Unsurprisingly, Taylor Swift leads the nominations with seven nods, including the coveted Best Artist accolade, but the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, and Charli XCX aren't far behind with five apiece.
Swift won the most prizes at last year's EMAs with three, including Best Artist and Best Video. Will it be her year again, or can someone else step up?
With her epic Eras Tour still going but soon to come to an end, 2024 has undoubtedly been one of Swift's years, and her reign doesn't look likely to come to an end at the EMAs.
After receiving seven nods ahead of the spectacle, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Love Story hitmaker leave Manchester with more than one gong, including the Best Artist prize.
Swift was named Artist of the Year at MTV's VMAs in September, and she was last year's Best Artist at the EMAs, too.
Best Artist | |
---|---|
Taylor Swift | 4/6 |
Sabrina Carpenter | 6/4 |
Billie Eilish | 2/1 |
Beyoncé | 5/2 |
Raye | 3/1 |
Post Malone | 4/1 |
At September's VMAs, Swift beat off competition from Carpenter to land the Artist accolade, and she's just 4/6 to see off the Please Please Please hitmaker at the EMAs.
However, Sabrina has also had a fantastic 2024, and she is just 6/4 to reverse the form and pick up the Best Artist accolade.
It looks to be a two-horse race between the pair, but Billie Eilish (2/1), Beyoncé (5/2), Raye (3/1), and Post Malone (4/1) might have something to say about that.
Swift is the only star to be nominated for the EMAs' Best Artist prize both this year and last year, after she defeated Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and SZA in 2023.
However, it could still be a successful EMAs for Carpenter.
She is looking to do the VMAs-EMAs double by winning the Best Song award after she scooped Song of the Year for Espresso at the VMAs in September.
While Swift isn't nominated in the Best Song category, Carpenter saw her off at the VMAs and looks to be a worthy 8/13 favourite at the EMAs.
Best Song | |
---|---|
Sabrina Carpenter - "Espresso" | 8/13 |
Beyoncé - "Texas Hold 'Em" | 1/1 |
Chappell Roan - "Good Luck, Babe!" | 11/10 |
Billie Eilish - "Birds of a Feather" | 7/4 |
Ariana Grande - "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)" | 2/1 |
Benson Boone - "Beautiful Things" | 3/1 |
Espresso hit the number one spot in the UK Singles Chart following its April release and was number one in several other countries. What's more, Carpenter won the Favourite Viral Song prize at this year's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards for the tune. If she doesn't taste victory in the EMAs category, then the award could quite easily go to any of the other candidates.
Beyoncé's Texas Hold 'Em is Evens, followed by the VMAs' Best New Artist, Chappell Roan. Roan's Good Luck, Babe! tune is an 11/10 chance, but Billie Eilish (7/4), Ariana Grande (2/1), and Benson Boone—who picked up the Best Alternative accolade at the VMAs—is a 3/1 chance with Beautiful Things.
While Carpenter might have things all her own way in the Best Song category, she will be opposing Swift once again in a battle for the Best Video gong. Swift is guaranteed to miss out on the Best Song accolade, but she has a strong contender for Best Video and is a favourite to land the prize.
She scooped the main Video of the Year accolade at the VMAs, defeating the likes of Grande and Eminem, and she will have to be better than those artists again, plus Kendrick Lamar, Charli XCX, and Lisa at the EMAs.
Best Video | |
---|---|
Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone - "Fortnight" | 4/5 |
Eminem - "Houdini" | 13/8 |
Lisa featuring Rosalía - "New Woman" | 2/1 |
Kendrick Lamar - "Not Like Us" | 3/1 |
Charli XCX - "360" | 7/2 |
Ariana Grande - "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)" | 4/1 |
Swift and Post Malone's tune Fortnight is the 4/5 frontrunner to be named Best Video on November 10th, but they could be defeated by a serial EMAs winner.
Eminem has a fantastic record at the spectacle, after winning 14 EMAs from 31 nominations.
While he lost out to Swift at the VMAs in both the Video of the Year and Artist of the Year categories, he was named Best Hip Hop ahead of the likes of Drake, Megan Thee Stallion, and Travis Scott. It's 13/8 that Slim Shady's song Houdini wins Best Video in a couple of weeks, but Swift won't be his only competition.
Either Swift or Eminem will have scored a big victory if they can overcome Thai rapper and singer Lisa's video for song New Woman, which features Rosalía. Blackpink singer Lisa is just 2/1 to triumph in what looks to be a tight category to call.
Videos for Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us (3/1), Charli XCX's tune 360 (7/2) and Ariana Grande's We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love), which is 4/1, are also in contention.
