Imagine being asked to bet on the sun shining in Cyprus. Who wouldn’t take a gamble on the outcome? Safer than a throw of the dice at a casino or a yank on the handle at the slots.
Incredibly, one hotel and casino in Cyprus is doing just that. The City of Dreams Mediterranean is offering you a free holiday if the sun does not shine this winter.
Not only would you have a free holiday, but you could get a free winery tour, a hiking excursion, or a raft of other outings to boot.
They say you should always read the small print and that nothing in this life is free. For reference, the offer from this very confident luxury hotel and casino is that they promise a complimentary one-night stay to those who visit in the winter for each day that isn’t sunny.
I guess the staff at the City of Dreams Mediterranean in Cyprus, which is an hour away from Paphos, know a thing or two about the weather.
The odds they offer are rather on their side given that this tourist hot spot is one of the sunniest places in Europe with a sweltering number of 340 sunny days in a year.
The rules are simple for a meteorologist. A Sunshine ‘fail’ day is one that has less than 70 percent direct sunlight between 9 am and 5 pm (which will be measured based on data from AccuWeather.com).
Senior Vice President of the hotel and casino Grant Johnson said, “There’s nothing worse than planning your holiday to escape the cold and having the weather turn when you arrive at your destination.
“We’re blessed with sun almost every day in Cyprus, but to put our guests’ minds at ease, we’ll invite them back (on us) if they don’t get sun while they’re here.”
Before you start shaking that rain stick or dancing with wolves, you need to know what the cost of the holiday will be, just in case the sun does actually shine. A room will cost you £228 per night but if you book before November 30th, you get a 15 percent discount.
Casinos.com have even provided you with this handy stream and QR code of Paphos just for you to take a peek to see if the sun is shining.
Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
