October 1st is International Older Person’s Day, and to celebrate slightly early, there is a free event being held in Stratford, New Zealand.
Stratford District Council (SDC) is putting on the event, which offers bingo, musical entertainment, and lunch with a cuppa. What’s not to like?
The event is open for the districts over 65’s on Monday, September 30th, from 10.30 am to 1 p.m. at the War Memorial centre.
The Stratford Singers will be performing on the day, and the International Day of Older Persons is a chance to celebrate the contributions of older community members and raise awareness of the issues they face.
SDC Community Development Officer Anna-Louise Crane says, “This is one of our favourite events in the calendar. It’s a lot of fun and just an awesome chance to get out and meet new friends, catch up on the goss’ with old ones... and then beat them all at BINGO!”
RSVP by Wednesday, 25 September, for catering purposes. Phone SDC on 06 765 6099 and ask to RSVP for their International Day of Older Persons event, or email Anna-Louise at ACrane@Stratford.govt.nz
Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
