The German developer Gamomat has a big selection of "Book of..." themed slots in its catalog. This includes popular titles like Ramses Book and Book of Madness, as well as other hits like Books & Bulls. Books & Pearls follow the same trends as the latter example, serving up two free spins rounds while also putting a slight spin on the popular "Book of..." gameplay mechanics. Join me as I find out more in this Books & Pearls slot review. 

While it might not be immediately obvious from the slot’s title, Books & Pearls is a pirate-themed slot adventure. The reels are set on an island in the middle of the ocean, with the deep blue of the sea and the bright green of the palm trees providing the game with a colorful backdrop. 

The symbols were what I would expect from a pirate-themed game. A treasure chest packed with gold, an anchor, a pirate ship, and a pirate all make up the higher-paying symbols, with the latter acting as the Wild symbol and the Scatter. Of course, there is also a Book symbol that is used to trigger the bonus features, which I will get to later in this Book & Pearls review. 

The Books & Pearls slot uses the same gameplay model that we have seen in other Gamomat slots. The slot uses a 5x3 matrix with adjustable paylines. Players can choose between five and ten paylines on each spin by clicking on the displayed payline number at the bottom of the screen. 

The max-bet and autoplay options are also on the control panel beneath the reels, and the paytable and other information are accessed by a burger menu at the top. 

As I’ve already mentioned in this Books & Pearls review, the game sticks closely to the popular "Book of..." gameplay mechanic. 

Landing three or more of the Book Scatters will be one of two Free Spins rounds. Players get ten spins. At the start of the round, a symbol is selected at random. During the round, only that symbol and the Book Scatter can land on the reels. This can lead to some impressive winning sequences. 

The second type of Free Spins is triggered when you land three or more Wilds. During this round, players get 15 free spins, and all wins are instantly tripled when they land. 

Like other Gamomat slots, the game also has two gamble bonuses that are triggered whenever you land a win. Players can choose between the Card Gamble and the Ladder Gamble option. In the Card Gamble, players must attempt to guess the color of a face-down card, while in the Ladder, they simply gamble their way up a ladder, with each step potentially doubling or losing their money. Personally, I prefer the Card Gamble feature, but ultimately, they both provide a 50/50 chance. 

For this slot review, I played Books & Pearls on an iPhone and an Android tablet. In addition to running it on Android and iOS, I checked it on Safari and Google Chrome. I found no notable differences between any version of the game, and the simple setup lends itself perfectly to mobile use. 

The slot allows you to adjust your paylines on each spin. I recommend playing it on ten lines to get the best experience. The betting range is mixed depending on how many lines you play, with the minimum bet being $0.05 and the maximum being $6. This is a good range that should satisfy most budgets.

Books & Pearls serves up a maximum win of 500x your total bet, which is not a huge amount compared to what you will find in many other top online slots. The RTP of the game is slightly above average, coming in at 96.06%. The game has been given a high volatility rating by Gamomat. 

Books & Pearls is another in a long line of "Book of..." style games to come from Gamomat. It is one of the more enticing offers, with the two free spins bonuses making it stand out from some of their other offerings. Unfortunately, a limited maximum win and a fairly standard design leave this feeling like a fairly forgettable pirate-themed game. 

If you want to enjoy some pirate-themed action, my first suggestion would be Pirots and its two sequels, Pirots 2 and Pirots 3, from ELK Studios. These provide a quirky spin on the genre as well as some big wins. I would also recommend Pirates Pub from Pragmatic Play.
