Gemix, Gemix, sounds like a familiar name, right? Gemix… ah yes, Gemix, the slot game released by Play’n GO some time ago. This means we have now stepped into another dumped rehash slot to go along with the developer's many other 100 series games. Gemix 100 is a slot that I refuse to call a sequel, as it’s a revamp of an original slot that has begun to gather dust.

If this were a new Play’n GO game with original ideas, features, and concepts, I would have opened this review with a song and dance. Alas, we are here with Gemix 100, and I think I’m going to puke.

But why such negativity, you might ask? Well, the reality is that Gemix 100 likely comes with a single multiplier upgrade, which I think is rather lazy. Nevertheless, we shall plod through this review and get it out of the way.

The Gemix 100 slot by Play’n GO comes with a slightly tweaked design compared to the original title. The backdrop is the same; it’s just zoomed in more than the original. The game's layout still contains 7 rows and 7 reels. Its programming includes a Cluster Pays mechanism, which generates wins. With the bet set, you can press the spin button to begin playing. You will notice the reels don’t actually spin when activated. With the Tumbler feature, the symbols drop off and into the game. When this action happens, you will notice highlighted spaces in the game's background. This is a feature called the Pattern. If you land a win where these spaces are, you will increase the multiplier by x5 each time. In doing this, you will also change the design of the game. 

There are three characters: the gnome, the princess, and the wizard. Each has its own world, and you will jump from one to the other with each Pattern clearance. 

When the Pattern feature is not won, you can win by aligning 5 or more symbols across the entire slot. When you win, those symbols are replaced with new ones. The symbols above them drop down, and then new symbols enter the game from above to fill the voids. 

Simply put, the rules on how to play are as follows:

• Press spin each time you want to play.
• Landing 5 or more symbols in a cluster, row, or pattern to win. 
• Repeat until you stop winning or run out of funds.

Gemix 100 doesn’t have a free spins bonus commonly present in online slots, but it does have a few special features that make the gameplay more dynamic. These include:

Crystal Charge: The charger fills with each winning symbol. If you win by clearing 25 consecutive symbols, you will activate one of these features:

• Nova Blast = A symbol blows up and destroys all symbols near it and transforms them.
• Crystal Warp = This transforms all matching symbols into other ones.
• Light Beam = Light projected from one symbol will transform others that the light hits.
• Chain Lightning = Two corner symbols become connected by a chain and all symbols within this will transform into one of the corner symbols.

Super Charge: If you displace 35 or more winning symbols, before triggering the Crystal Charge, you will activate this feature which doubles all multipliers on wins made. 

Multiplier: Multipliers can climb to 100x. Multipliers grow in value by x1 each time you win.

World Wilds: With each pattern cleared, unlock new gaming worlds. In these worlds, no-winning rounds can activate unique Wilds.

• Gnome = Receive up to 10 Wilds in the game to help you win.
• Princess = You’ll be gifted a Wild that can spread from edge to edge to help you win.
• Wizard = 1-4 Sticky Wilds feature to help you win.

I didn’t think much of the original Gemix game purely because I am not a fan of Cluster Pay setups and large-scale 7x7 slots. It’s a personal preference thing. I already know that this game isn’t for me, but let’s see how we get on with 50 auto spins played at $1 bets.

The first big win comes in on spin 6 with $8. I also activate the Chain Lightning feature. The result of this produces a $12 win. Not a bad start. A few spins later, I activated the Gnome Wild, and this paid out $8. Now, I must point out that the auto play goes very quickly, and it’s a bit difficult to keep up with the action. Wins do happen frequently, but they are tiny and often well below the betting value.

It seems that you can easily trigger 2, 3, or 4 consecutive wins, but you still cannot make more than $2 or $3. Plus, you are still short of symbols to activate the Crystal Charger.

The last ten spins saw the Gnome Wilds activate twice more, but the returns were minimal. The Crystal Warp feature landed on spin 44, pushing my balance up to almost break even. The 50 spins ended with me being $10 off from where I started.

Gemix 100 comes with an RTP of 96.20%. The volatility is at the highest setting. The max win is 25,000 times the bet. If you win the jackpot, betting at the value of $100 per spin, that’s a return of $2,500,000!

Compared to the original slot, Gemix 100 does present a bit more in the feature department, but the gameplay remains the same. Frequent low wins, with no sight of the new feature being of any help.
