It’s almost a year to the day that Play’n GO first launched the original Legion Gold slot game. The game is a story of gold hunting during the era of the Roman Army, and their conquest is not over. In this review, I look at the sequel to Legion Gold following the brand-new release of Legion Gold Unleashed.
I will be looking at the gaming evolution and sharing with you how the software performs, how the game is played, what can be won, and what bonus features exist to enhance the potential to win real money.
As with all the free slot reviews at Casinos.com, you can experience the game for free, thanks to the embedded demo that can be accessed through all Android and iOS devices. No registration is required, and there are no downloads to perform. Just click and play.
The quest for gold led the Roman Army to some dust bowl far removed from the first game’s setting, which was some imperial palace. What does remain the same is the layout of the slot itself. You play on a 3x5 grid, and the symbols for the game are mainly armored animals like an elephant, a tiger, a crocodile, and an eagle. These make up the slot's higher-ranking symbols. The lower ones are A, K, Q, and J. The Wild symbol remains as the Roman Soldier, and the Scatter bonus symbol is represented by the sword and shield.
The paylines are also the same in number, with 25 of them used to help players land successful wins. In addition to all of this, there is the all-important gold. Romain gold coins feature, and they can lead to some of the game’s main features.
There is nothing dynamic about this game that sets it apart from other game releases this year so far.
Now, you don’t need to have played the first Legion Gold slot game to understand or know how Legion Gold Unleashed works. The two do form a series but are very much individual games. When you load the Legion Gold Unleashed demo game or real money version, be aware that the first action is to set your cost of play. The game defaults at $1.50 per spin. You can decrease it to as low as $0.05 per spin or increase the value to $100 per spin.
Once you set the limits of play, tap the green button to spin the reels and begin the game. You can opt for the auto-play mode, which is the orange button. You can play 10, 20, 50, 75, or 100 free spins. You can also set limits on when these should automatically stop, like when you win x amount or if the balance decreases by a certain amount.
Winning comes from landing the same three or more symbols across one of the 25 paylines embedded in the game. The patterns of these paylines can be found within the game’s paytable. Press on the blue information button to reveal the payline patterns and to see other gaming details. This includes the values of each symbol and what the bonus features of the game are.
The first in-game feature to benefit from is the Gold Respins. By landing six gold coins, you will trigger the respin feature. These coins will also come with a multiplier value that can range from x1 to x1000 your wagering value. The Gold Coin Bag collects all the coins on the reels and can also, in this bonus feature, collect coin values multiple times over to increase your winning success.
Legion Gold Unleashed comes with a Mega Free Spins bonus round. If you land three scatter symbols, you will activate the feature, which also includes gigantic 3x3 symbols.
Roman Empire-themed slot games aren’t overly common. It’s not a genre I particularly go for. The main attraction was that the developer was Play’n GO. This is award-winning software, and they usually produce slot games to a very high standard.
I set my cost of play to $2 per spin and set up 50 auto-spins. During play, it becomes evident very quickly that Legion Gold Unleashed is a very basic game. It doesn’t ooze any special wow factor with its in-game features or its programming. There is nothing dynamic about this game that sets it apart from other game releases this year so far. In fact, it is probably one of the worst Play’n GO slot machines I have played. This is a rarity because they hit far more than they miss when it comes to online casino slots.
My 50 spins ended with my balance massively in the red and with no major feature triggered.
The maximum that can be won is 3,000x the value of your wager. This is higher than the first Legion Gold slot game that paid out 2,000x the amount. If you are playing at $100 per spin, this means the highest value that can be won is $300,000.
The Return to Player (RTP) comes in at 96.25%, which is about average for a Play’n GO game. The volatility by which it is programmed is glaringly set to High. Basically, I would advise playing this if your funds are somewhat limited.
Legion Gold Unleashed offers a bit more than the first Legion Gold slot game, but it’s so far from being a great game, especially by the standards I would expect of Play’n GO. This is more a fall of the Roman Army than it is about their conquests.
The features are dire, and the whole concept is a bit weak. The fact they are using armored animals in this game doesn’t make any sense. I want war-scarred soldiers in such games, not a day out at the zoo, so to speak. I sometimes think this industry and those making the games forget the target market is adults.
Legion Gold Unleashed is an awful game with nothing new offered. Was a sequel needed? Well, no, and this is because the first game was just as bad. If you want my advice, ignore this slot and focus on these alternative games: Undefeated Xerxes by Play’n GO, Prometheus: Titan of Fire by Fantasma, and the official Gladiator movie slot by Playtech.

Read Full BioPlay’n GO, a multi-award-winning and innovative software company, developed Legion Gold Unleashed. That said, Legion Gold Unleashed is one of their worst games. I suggest ignoring this and playing one of their better games, like Cat Wilde and the Incan Quest™ or Moon Princess: Power of Love™.
Yes. The Legion Gold Unleashed slot comes as a free demo game that is embedded into this review. You can play this demo on any tablet or mobile. You don’t need to download software or register to play the game.
Luckily, Play’n GO is found in many of the top casinos online. This software brand is very easy to find, so I recommend beginning with the top 10 casino reviews at Casinos.com and looking for which platform best suits your gaming, banking, and promotional needs.
Play’n GO launched Legion Gold Unleashed on February 29, 2024. This developer is hugely prolific, and this is the 8th game released so far this year. Other new slots include Love is in the Fair™ and 3 Clown Monty 2™. You can also play these free demos at Casinos.com.
Legion Gold Unleashed comes with a Mega Free Spins bonus. When you land three scatter symbols, you will unlock this bonus feature. The round also includes massive 3x3 symbols to help boost wins. That said, the Gold Respins feature is probably better for increasing your balance.
Legion Gold Unleashed comes with a Return to Player score of 96.25%. This is standard for a slot these days and for the developer. The RTP is merely a theoretical payback rate that is calculated by the amount you spend and how many spins you play.
