The Legion Gold series builds on its numbers once again with the release of Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead. Play’n GO has had a long affinity for the mystique of Ancient Egypt. Why? Well, that’s the million-dollar question. And I’m here to find out!
I took a cab, flew to England, and went to find the offices of Play’n GO. The lady in the reception of some building said she’d never heard of them and called security on me. She was clearly hiding something. So, I took a walk, and 35 hours later, I found out that I would have to travel to the Mediterranean island of Malta. But by now, I had already run out of money, and for two days, I’d been living on the streets behind a bin that’s full of recycled cardboard and fox doo-doo.
In this review, I share the gaming features, software settings, design, performance, and my first-hand experience. Players can access the slot for free in its demo mode right here. In addition to this, Casinos.com can also guide you to the best real money sites, where you can sign up and claim your exclusive welcome bonus.
With hundreds of Egyptian-themed slots already on the market, the designs surrounding them are all very uninspired and generic. With Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead, the slot is outside with the pyramids in the background. In fact, the game blocks out the image of the Sphinx, which seems a bit stupid.
The game comes with three rows, five reels, and twenty-five paylines. Above reel 1 is a multiplier counter that can reach up to 1,000x.
Everything about this slot is a repeat of a repeat, and it’s getting a bit silly now. Where’s the creativity?
Once you have loaded the Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead slot, begin by setting your bet value. This is something you pay per spin, so think about how you are going to budget the experience. Beside the b et value indicator are – and + buttons. Use these to cycle through the prices. The lowest you can bet per spin is $0.05, and the highest is $100.
Once your bet price is selected, begin playing Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead for real money by pressing the Spin button. To get a win and payout, you must land three or more matching symbols. These must land from left to right, starting with reel 1, and must align with one of the twenty-five paylines.
The top symbol is the Wild Roman Legion, followed by the pharaoh, lion, crocodile, and dog. The symbols paying out the least are the J, Q, K, and A. These are the base game symbols, and the process of playing this slot is very much a case of repetitive action. You spin the reels and aim to land a win. However, there are some special features that enhance the chances of winning and the overall experience.
Gold Re-Spins Feature: Unlock this feature when you land six gold coins. You will then play a game in which you will try to fill the reels and rows with coins, and each coin you land resets the spin counter back to six. If you fill all the reels, you will get a 1000x prize payout.
Gold Coin Chest: This symbol appears in the Gold Re-spins, and can land many times over. Its power collects all the coin values to boost your payout at the end of the round.
Mega Free Spins: With three scatter symbols, you will unlock this bonus game. During the bonus round, a mega symbol that covers three full reels will move with each spin to help create big wins.
I’m not an Egypt-theme fan. Frankly, I think the category is over-baked and is about as appealing as eating sand. I set my bet to only pay $1 per spin, and I put the game into its auto-spins mode and selected it to play fifty auto-spins.
The game doesn't offer much dynamism. The tactic seems to be to produce low-frequency wins and to drop features that almost land to create the illusion that something is happening. This is, of course, to distract you from the fact you're winning nothing. It takes eight spins for the first win, and within the first twenty spins, I have won six times, and none are over the value of my bet.
On spin twenty-five, I land a $22.80 win, which is followed by a $12 win. The game goes through these runs of doing nothing, then doing a bit, then back to nothing. I could cash out $20, but I wait for the next flurry of wins to come in.
With ten spins left, I can at least break even, however, on spin forty-nine, the next big win lands, giving me $9.80. That ends my fifty spins and I get to cash out $14.20.
The Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead slot by Play’n GO has a medium volatility setting. The RTP of this game is 96.25%. The maximum win that is possible is 3,000 times your bet value. This means that if you bet the max $100 per spin, the jackpot will be a mere $300,000.
Winning aside, there is nothing about this game that I haven’t seen or experienced before. The Re-spin feature, the bonus game. Everything about this slot is a repeat of a repeat, and it’s getting a bit silly now. Where’s the creativity?
Anyway, if you want more from your casino games that also have value for money, then I recommend you play these non-Egyptian-themed slot machines for a far better experience.
