Welcome readers to another venture into the world of the Unusual Suspects. A hugely successful slot series by Northern Lights Gaming. In what is now the fifth release, I investigate the slot titled Wanted Unusual Suspects. Prior to this, the developer had made Unusual Suspects Cartel Cash, Unusual Catch, More Unusual Suspects, and lastly, the first one that started it all, Unusual Suspect. 

I’m excited to see how this one shapes up. The setting is different, and if it’s as good as the Cartel Cash slot, then Northern Light Gaming can continue to make more Unusual Suspect slots.

Wanted Unusual Suspects takes us into the Wild West. Visually, the game stands out more than the setting, but that's fine with me – I’m here for the features and jackpots. When it comes to the design, Wanted Unusual Suspects is set in a town where the robbed bank is on fire. The slot is central to the game with its chrome edges. There are four rows, five reels, and twenty paylines. Above the reels is a Bonus Perk Bar, and to the left of the slot hangs the four jackpot prizes.

What I like about this series by Northern Lights Gaming is that there are plenty of in-game features and slot bonuses. But first, let’s look at how the basics of Wanted Unusual Suspects operate. 

When you load the game, step one is to set the amount you wish to bet per spin. Use the coin icon to open the bet settings. The minimum bet is $0.20, with the maximum set at $20. You can choose any fixed amount between the two by using the + and – buttons.

With the bet set, press the spin button to begin playing Wanted Unusual Suspects. To win in this game, you need three or more matching symbols to land on the paylines from left to right. The top symbols are the Wild symbol, the bag of gold, sticks of dynamite, crossed guns, and shackles. The lower ones are 10, J, Q, K, and A. 

The basics of play are to spin the reels and hope that the right symbols land in the right spot. However, the excitement comes with the many features and bonuses of this game. 

Outlaw Wilds: These Wilds explore and can spawn more Wilds into the game. The Purple Outlaw will switch the top and bottom symbols of two reels into Wilds.  The Green Outlaw can turn a whole reel into a Wild. The Orange Outlaw turns two reels into a Wild. The Blue Outlaw will turn up to seven random symbols into Wilds. 

Coin Symbol: These gold coins reveal either a jackpot prize or a cash value.

Jackpots: The Grand Jackpot pays 5,000 times your bet. Major pays 1,000 times your bet. Minor 50 times, and Mini 20 times. 

Sticky Frame: Each coin that lands will be left behind a sticky frame. These can carry multipliers of up to 5x. 

Sheriff Backup Bonus: The Sheriff symbol puts coins into Sticky Frames that have no coins. When the Sheriff calls for backup, the multiplier can increase by x2.

Scatter Symbols: When Scatter symbols land, they charge the Bonus Perk Bar. When you land two scatters on the top row, you will activate a nudge respin mechanism. The scatters will nudge their way to the bottom row with each respin played. All the while, the Bonus Perk Bar will increase and will try to trigger the bonus feature.

Bonus Perk Pick: When the bonus game triggers, take your pick of the five outlaws. Each carries a special feature to help you win more money. 

• Free Spins Boost that unlocks five extra spins and a x2 multiplier.
• More Spin, which awards two extra bonus spins.
• More Frames of up to three are added to the reels. 
• More Wilds, which can lead to more wins.
• More Sheriff Symbols

If you have a full Bonus Perk Bar, you activate the Extra Bonus Perk.

Free Spins: Three scatters will award ten free spins. Four scatters make fifteen spins. Five scatters give you twenty bonus spins. There is a progress trail in the round. When you reach a bandit, you will receive five more spins with an increased multiplier. This will go from x2 to x10.

Bonus Buy: Pay for free spins at 100 times your bet. Buy Super Free Spins at a cost of 200 times your bet.

Games like Wanted Unusual Suspects are built for serious players. More features, more entertainment, more opportunity, more interest. More, more, more. I love it. 

I dove into the game with my bet set to $2 a spin. I loaded up the autoplay mode and set this to fifty auto-spins. With the first spin, I landed 2 scatters and 2 frames, and my first win dropped to $2.80. As the spins continued, more frames were added to the slot, and several had good multipliers on them. The wins made were low, but the biggest return was $10. Sadly, the scatters never unlocked the bonus round, but the frames were everywhere by the time I ended my fifty spins.  

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to cash out, and I think I may have to return to this town for more adventure and action. 

The volatility setting of Wanted Unusual Suspects comes in at medium to high. The RTP is 96.05%. The maximum payout is 10,000 times the bet. If you play to the highest bet at $20, the jackpot will return 200,000. Not bad value for money. 

I expected Wanted Unusual Suspects to be a great game, and it was. Whilst my experience was fruitless, as they say, it still entertained me. If you have played other slots in this series and enjoyed them, then you will like this game as well.
