The Midnight Gold slot comes from Play’n GO, boasting a Victorian-era aesthetic with loads of fun and original features. The base game alone has a Deliver feature and a mystery instant win, while hitting scatters can lead to three separate free spin games, culminating with a 20,000x maximum win potential.
I was interested in Midnight Gold, so I played the game for real money. You can read about my experience below and try it yourself, either in free demo mode on this page or by registering at one of our recommended top online casinos.
Midnight Gold has the usual 5x3 layout with 20 fixed win lines. The game’s designers depict the lavish decadence of Victorian-era royalty and two Robin Hood-like characters that aim to steal their treasures.
Unsurprisingly, Play’n GO delivers once again when it comes to visual and audio effects, featuring lively win animations and sound cues specific to symbols that appear on the board. I also enjoyed the fitting background music and the general pace of play.
I didn’t have much luck playing the Midnight Gold slot for real money, but I must say that I still had lots of fun.
Setting up your bet is easy, thanks to the intuitive control panel shared by all modern Play’n GO titles. You can use the +/- buttons to adjust your stake between $0.10 and $100.
The Spin button is on the right, and next to it is the Autoplay button that you can use to trigger up to 100 uninterrupted spins, as well as set the conditions at which you wish to autoplay to stop.
The three-line icon at the bottom left opens the settings menu, where you can toggle sound, voice, fast play, and other options.
The Midnight Gold slot has plenty of bonus features, starting with the Deliver symbol that pays all treasure chests in view, which can yield multipliers of up to 250x. If you land a treasure chest on the leftmost reel, you can randomly earn a re-spin.
Three scatters unlock the free spin game, and if you only land two scatters, you’ll earn a chance for a mystery instant win. Once free spins are triggered, you can choose between stacked wilds and roaming wilds as the go-to features during the round. Either way, an additional free spin will be awarded for any wild that lands.
You can also get a wild multiplier of between 2x and 20x during the free spin round. Meanwhile, if you trigger free spins with a gold scatter, you will earn Super Free Spins, where every spin guarantees a multiplier.
I didn’t have much luck playing the Midnight Gold slot for real money, but I must say that I still had lots of fun. Like many slots, this one delivers big wins in the free spins game. Unfortunately, there’s no Buy Bonus option, so I had to be patient.
I set my stake at $5 with about $500 in my bankroll. Things weren’t going well for the first ten minutes or so. The occasional mid-sized win from the Deliver symbol didn’t stop my balance from dwindling quickly.
Only when I was already down over $300 did I manage to hit three scatters and trigger the free spin game. I opted for stacked wilds and made the most of my choice. Each wild increased my free spins counter, and I was regularly getting wild multipliers. Ultimately, I won $187 for the round, barely recovering half the amount I previously lost. I played a few more rounds with little luck before deciding to quit.
Midnight Gold is a high-volatility slot with a default RTP of 96.20%. However, keep in mind that there are versions with lower RTP percentages, including 94.20%, 91.20%, 87.20%, and 84.20%. The max payout is 20,000x, higher than an average Play’n GO title, but the probability of winning this jackpot is only 1 in 500 million.
Midnight Gold is an entertaining, aesthetically pleasing, and potentially very rewarding slot worth trying. Things didn’t work out for me, and I lost some money playing, but that won’t discourage me from trying again, as I had a lot of fun.
The game has several bonus features in both the base game and the bonus round to keep things interesting. In addition to that, the choice between two different free spins features gives players greater flexibility. There’s no Bonus Buy, so you may have to wait a while for the free spins round, but that is the only downside to this game, in my opinion.
Play’n GO came up with a pretty original theme here, so you’ll struggle to find a similar-looking game. The Good, The Bad, and The Rich from Red Tiger also emphasized fortune-stealing, but in a Wild West setting, similar to Thunderkick’s The Gunman of Goldwood.
