As you will know, by breezing through my reviews to get to the free demo games, my opinion of games and game makers has little to no merit. However, I must say that ELK Studios was possibly the second-best software developer of last year. A year that saw their Nitropolis series expand and take on spin-off games like Rogue Rats of Nitropolis and Pug Thugs of Nitropolis. These casino games raised the bar for innovation and gaming dynamism.
To my surprise, they have come back! I thought the studio would have signed the series off with Nitropolis 5, but no, here we are, summoning the release of Nitropolis TV. I have no clue what the idea is, what the game will offer, and if it will tie in with the previous slots in the series. So, I invite you to join me as I present the game in full glory, talking about design, software settings, in-play features, and bonuses. Plus, what could you potentially win if you were to play the game for real money inside the top casinos online?
The design of Nitropolis TV by ELK Studios is bizarrely set during the day. The game places us on the rooftop of some city building, with the slot rigged to some make-shift wooden and cardboard frame that is surrounded by lightbulbs. This has the feel of an aftermath scenario, given the dark grim settings of the Nitropolis series.
The slot layout is characteristically the same in that it presents a huge layout with varying ways to win. You get a six-reel slot with four gaming rows and a special feature row above them. The layout allows for up to 4,096 ways to win. To the left of the slot is a TV set that highlights won features.
Well, I have to say that I’m a bit muted by Nitropolis TV. I would have left this series alone after Nitropolis 5, but you know what software developers are like. I can imagine that in a year, I will be reviewing Nitropolis 20; it’s just how things are.
Experience of the previous slots in the Nitropolis series is not a necessity. You can dive into this one if you want and then work through all the other games. The Nitropolis TV slot plays as you would expect of any slot machine online. Begin by choosing your bet. Bets per spin start at $0.20 and rise to a max cost of $100. With your bet picked, you can select the spin button to begin playing.
To win from your spin, you must align three to six matching symbols across the six adjacent reels, left to right. As the four main game reels spin, so too does the feature row above them. What you get from this row is multiple symbols called Nitro Reels. This is how the game can bring about 4,096 ways to win, as a single Nitro Reel can present two to twelve identical symbols.
You will also notice star images appearing on the pay symbols. These are collected to upgrade the size of a Nitro Reel. However, if a Nitro Reel already comes with twelve symbols, the next order is for those symbols to turn into wild symbols.
Now, all this covers the base game performance. You simply spin the reels and hope more than three align and you win something. That said, there is more to this game, than simply winning from this method.
Here's an overview of the Nitropolis TV slot bonus features.
When you land the Vulture symbol, it triggers one of four features before turning wild: Nitro Reel Upgrade (expands reels with more symbols), Nitro Shift (swaps Nitro Reels on the top row), Match Up (upgrades low-paying symbols), or Both Ways (allows wins from right to left).
I was super intrigued to see what this game offered because it had all the expected elements, but Nitropolis TV presented them in a new light. Being a fan of the series, I played with a $2 bet per spin and set fifty auto-spins.
After the fifth spin, my first win landed at $0.80, soon followed by the Vulture symbol, which triggered the Match Up feature but didn’t produce a win. Several spins later, I won $3.60 – the highest win so far. The gameplay was slow, which was necessary given all the action on the reels, the feature row, and the in-play features.
On spin twenty, I won $8, leaving me $15 from breaking even. Ten spins passed without a win before a flurry of small payouts came in. The hit frequency alternated between win streaks and complete droughts. It also felt strange playing a Nitropolis game that was more upbeat and polished.
In the last ten spins, I landed a Nitro Shift feature with no win and another Match Up, again resulting in zero return. The game fizzled out, leaving me with a sense of, “Oh… oh, okay!”
Nitropolis TV presents a high-volatility game with an RTP rating of 94%. This is standard for ELK Studios but lower than many online slot machines. The maximum winnable payout is 10,000 times your bet value. This makes the highest jackpot $1,000,000 if betting $100 spins.
Well, I have to say that I’m a bit muted by Nitropolis TV. I would have left this series alone after Nitropolis 5, but you know what software developers are like. I can imagine that in a year, I will be reviewing Nitropolis 20; it’s just how things are. The game was flat, it had no energy, and it felt that there was a lot less going on in this game than what players had been previously treated to in other Nitropolis slots.
