The design of Release the Kraken Megaways doesn’t follow on from the more cartoonish styles of Release the Kraken 1 and Release the Kraken 2. In fact, Release the Kraken Megaways is the better of all the games thus far. The backdrop shows a shipwreck, with its barrel cargo washed up on the sand, along with the treasure chest. 

The slot goes from under the depths of the ocean to being on land and comes with a colossal Megaways layout. You have up to seven rows of symbols across six reels. This construct comes with a Ways to Win mechanism, with the number at 117,649. 

To the side of the reels, you find the game’s Ante Bet feature and the Buy Bonus option.

If you have not played any Megaways slot machine, have no fear over how this game looks. It plays like a regular slot but offers more ways of producing wins. Once you have the game loaded, set your bet limit. Random Win: At random points within the base game where no wins are made, the symbols will reconfigure to produce a win that is a minimum of 10x your betting value.

Ante Bet: Increase your bet by 25%, and you will increase your chances of landing the bonus symbols.

I’m not a huge fan of Megaways slots, but this slot game offers more than what most Pragmatic Play slots come with. Plus, the first-ever Release the Kraken game was fairly decent. So, I approached this game with my bet value set to $2 per spin. I put the game into its autoplay mode and selected fifty auto spins. 

It took two spins to produce a first win of $2.80, which was followed by two back-to-back wins of $0.80 and $1.20. it took a further five spins for the next two wins. As this continued, the hit rate of wins was fairly high, and on spin twenty-two, I landed a $20 win. After this, the success I’d been having dried up, and with ten spins left, I would need a big win to break even. My fate was sealed, even with a $1.20 win on the last spin. I was way off being able to cash out. 

The Release the Kraken Megaways slot by Pragmatic Play has a medium volatility, which may have accounted for the frequency of hits I experienced. The RTP is an average of 96.40%. The maximum jackpot is 10,000 times the bet. If you gamble at $240 per spin, that’s a payout of $2,400,000.

I do give Pragmatic Play a lot of grief, and while I think the Megaways edition is a cop-out, it holds up, but only thanks to its volatility setting and more-than-average features [for a Pragmatic Play game].
