Secrets of the Phoenix Megaways is a Roxor Gaming slot based on the mythical firebird. Fans of the studio will immediately recognize the name. Secrets of the Phoenix is the most popular slot series in the developer’s portfolio, and it has already seen a few releases. The Megaways makeover aims to put them all to shame with a much higher number of winning ways and more than just quality-of-life upgrades.
This mythical adventure takes place in a jungle and comes with 117,649 ways to win. The action takes place on a familiar grid with 6 reels and up to 7 symbols per each. A beautiful mythical phoenix can fly across the reels from time to time, imbuing the slot with mythical winning potential. Aside from the beautiful visuals, the slot is also stacked on features, some of which have caught me off-guard.
What makes it even more appealing to fans of Megaways slots is that the gameplay is straightforward yet very engaging. It sticks to the Megaways formula while applying a firebird’s magical touch. While cascades are in the focus, wild stacks and scatters spice up the action and allow for much higher wins. Read my Secrets of the Phoenix Megaways review below to learn more about the slot.
One of the first changes Roxor Gaming has made with this slot is the graphics. It simply looks much better than its predecessors, with amazing graphics and animations that are on par with some video games. The 6-7-reel set is set against a jungle background with clear blue skies above. It creates a perfect and immersive atmosphere enhanced by the epic soundtrack and sound effects.
Symbols include stylized card royals that fit the theme as well as higher-paying gems. The phoenix wild is animated with fire surrounding its head, which gives the slot a great look and feel. It expands over a reel when it lands in stacks with fantastic animation, making Secrets of the Phoenix Megaways the best-looking game in the popular series.
Secrets of the Phoenix by Roxor Gaming gets a welcome Megaways makeover with a dwarfish winning potential. It doesn’t bring a lot of complex features, but you do get wild stacks and multipliers that make things exciting in the base game and bonus round.
To start your rise from the ashes, you should set a bet first. Choose between 20c and $20 per spin and hit the spin button beneath the reels to start. The Cascading Wins mechanics is central to the slot’s gameplay. Each win will trigger a cascade that will follow up with more of the same as long as you land winning combinations on the grid.
There are a few nice additions to enjoy. For example, if a cascade clears reels 2 to 5, a wild phoenix stack will fill them up. This greatly increases your winning opportunities. While there are no multipliers or other modifiers to turn the action up a notch, the wild stacks occur more frequently than you think and can deliver some pretty decent wins.
There are no other special features in the Secrets of the Phoenix Megaways base game. You do get a bonus round, though, which opts for more volatile and explosive returns.
Secrets of the Phoenix Megaways’s bonus round comes into play when you land 4 or more scatters on the reels in the base game. This is a change from the previous releases which required consecutive cascades for the bonus round. You receive 12 free spins for 4 scatters plus 5 extra spins to your tally for each extra triggering scatter.
Like many Megaways slots before it, the bonus round brings a progressive win multiplier into the mix. It starts at x1 and builds up by +1 for each cascading win. The cool thing about it is that there are no limits. Retriggers with no caps are possible as well, as long as you keep landing scatter symbols during the bonus round.
There’s no bonus round, though, which, in my opinion, is a bit of a miss.
I initially started playing the Secrets of the Phoenix Megaways online slot with bets of $1 per round to test it out at my favorite slots site. The highly volatile math model showed its teeth early on. It took around 10 spins to hit a decent win, so be careful with your bets. Once the wins started coming, the cascading feature did its best to offer great returns.
I didn’t win huge sums of money during the base game, but I hit a few solid ones during my playthrough. The bonus round came after around 40 spins and was much more rewarding. I managed to get the multiplier up to x12, which, in combination with the highest-paying symbols, provided excellent wins.
Secrets of the Phoenix Megaways is a highly volatile slot with an RTP of 95.39%. The maximum projected win is set at 500x, which is a bit low and disappointing for a Megaways slot game.
Secrets of the Phoenix by Roxor Gaming gets a welcome Megaways makeover with a dwarfish winning potential. It doesn’t bring a lot of complex features, but you do get wild stacks and multipliers that make things exciting in the base game and bonus round. The running multiplier in the bonus round has no cap, and together with the possible retriggers, it makes the free spins round worth your while.
The phoenix bird is a great inspiration for slot developers. There are plenty of alternatives with all kinds of features, including the likes of Quickspin’s Phoenix Sun. You can also go for Pariplay’s Phoenix Kingdom or Pragmatic Play’s Phoenix Forge. Of course, you can also try the original Secrets of the Phoenix slots for a Megaways-free experience.

Yes, it does. You need to land 4 scatters to receive 15 free spins. Each extra triggering scatter adds +5 free spins to your tally. A progressive win multiplier starts at x1 in the bonus round and goes up by +1 for each cascade win without a cap in sight.
No, there isn’t, and if you ask me, it’s a bummer. This is a highly volatile Megaways slot that eats up a lot of spins until you reach the bonus round. Getting there would have been much easier if you had a bonus buy feature no matter the cost.
