Las Vegas may be the premier gambling destination in the world, but whether you're playing slots, blackjack, roulette, or poker - at some point, you need to fuel yourself. And there is no shortage of food options available, with most casinos housing 3-5 restaurants and a plethora of options elsewhere.
But different strokes for different folks, and as of 2022 around 4% of people in the USA opted for a vegan lifestyle according to Consumer Goods & FMCG, with the World Animal Foundation reporting this figure as high as 6% as of October 2023. Tens of millions of people visit Vegas every year, so there are plenty of vegan mouths to feed.
So we got to thinking - where's the best place to go if you're a vegan in Las Vegas? The answer, if you're aware of Vegas casino culture, is actually obvious. But for everyone else, let's dive into the results our research and analytics teams came up with.
There was one clear winner here, with the Wynn Las Vegas coming in with a monster score compared to the competition. And it should be no surprise, really. Back in 2010, it was reported that owner Steve Wynn announced he would be switching to a Vegan diet after watching the documentary 'Eating' by Mike Anderson. Another report suggested it all started "a year ago on my boat in St. Tropez" having been inspired by a "handsome Indian gentleman," who turned out to be multimillionaire Gulu Lalvani. The truth lies somewhere in the middle - Lalvani gave him the DVD for the documentary Eating, and the rest is history.
His devotion to his diet is represented at his casino's restaurants, with a Vegan score of 403.4 (which is an extrapolated number to represent keyword research based on visitor reviews). The raw data showed a total of 189 reviews mentioned a reference to vegan or veganism out of 27,423.
So there you have, if you're a vegan and heading to Vegas, the Wynn is for you. Wynn by name, wins by nature. But who's next?
The next land-based casino in line is the Cosmopolitan with a score of 149.66, more than doubling their nearest competitor (but were doubled themselves by the #1 spot). Although they only have 2,347 reviews at the time of writing, their vegan selection is up there for Vegas spots.
One visitor said, "the chef told me what was vegan and said he’d make lots of other things too," while another added, "highly recommend Beauty and Essex, their Vegan menu was exquisite and the service 5 star."
Mandalay Bay, The Mirage and Red Rock Casino complete the top five.
Out of the 14 casinos selected for analysis - which were determined from our most popular Las Vegas casinos article - Planet Hollywood was at the bottom for vegans with an 8.9 score and just five reviews out of 32,000 including vegan references or keywords. "More vegan options would be nice,", "would like more vegan food choices at the hotel," and "this hotel needs to have vegan options" were notable comments.
While it didn't make our list due to a small data set, a special mention goes out to the hottest vegan (or plant-based) restaurant in Vegas in 2024, Crossroads at Resorts. It opened in 2023, and securing a reservation is challenging, according to locals.
Casinos.com utilized Trip Advisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with veganism in Las Vegas. We calculated the percentage of vegan-rated mentions in the total Trip Advisor reviews and extrapolated them as if all Casinos had the same number of reviews for fairness.
