Nevada Gaming Win Close To Record in March As Sports Betting Also Rises

Nevada came within a few slot jackpots of setting an all-time record for overall gaming win in March.

March’s overall gaming win in Nevada was $1.355 billion, just a shade under the all-time $1.359 billion set in July 2021.

March was the 13th month in a row Nevada’s gaming industry has hit the billion-dollar mark. The March 2022 figure was an increase of nearly 27% from March 2021.

Considering the Vegas events calendar in April — which has already included two weekends of concerts by the wildly popular Korean music group BTS and the NFL Draft (today through Saturday) — April might push to the $1.5 billion mark, depending on the whims of Lady Luck.

As far as sports wagering was concerned in March, the overall handle was $863.3 million, up 10.6% from February ($780.8 million) and up 34.7% from March 2021 ($641 million). The vast majority of that sports betting handle was on basketball, which accounted for $708.9 million, boosted greatly by the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Sports betting revenue was $37 million, up 19.4% from February ($31 million) but down 6.2% from March 2021 ($39.3 million).

Online sports wagering handle was $576.6 million, which was 66.8% of the total handle. The March online sports handle was an increase of 12.5% from February ($512.4 million) and up 49.7% from March 2021 ($385.1 million). Mobile sports betting handle was 66.8% of total handle.

Nevada does not offer real money online casino play, with the notable exception of Internet poker. And for online sports wagering, customers have to register in-person instead of online.
