Odds On What Timothee Chalamet Will Do Next

Timothee Chalamet has been the talk of the town in recent years, and he went viral once again recently when making a brutally honest speech at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Chalamet could make history on Sunday by becoming the youngest-ever Best Actor winner at the Oscars, for his role as a young Bob Dylan in biopic A Complete Unknown, but lost out to Adrien Brody.

The 29-year-old actor has been on an unconventional Oscars campaign trail for months, which has seen him crash his own lookalike contest in New York City last October, and he impressed with some elite American football knowledge on ESPN's College GameDay in December.  But potential Academy Awards success is nothing new to him.

Seven years ago, Chalamet was nominated for a Lead Actor Oscar for 2017 movie Call Me by Your Name, but he won his first major award at this year's SAG Awards, becoming the event's youngest-ever Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role winner.

Accepting the accolade, he told the audience: "I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don't usually talk like that, but I wanna be one of the greats, I'm inspired by the greats. I'm inspired by the greats here tonight.

"I'm as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps. And I wanna be up there."

His stock isn't fading anytime soon, so it's not suprise that casino sites and the likes are starting to compile odds on his career path. But where will he step next on his potential path to greatness?

Chalamet's Time To Shine

In a world where the word "woke" is bandied around a lot nowadays, and many stars wheel out media-trained, bland speeches at awards ceremonies to avoid being cancelled, it's quite refreshing to hear Chalamet be so open and honest about wanting to be one of the best in the business.

He has already been called this generation's DiCaprio, Brando, and James Dean, and compared to many other greats.

Some have pointed out similarities between Chalamet and DiCaprio's careers, after both made their own way to Hollywood, by showing off their versatility at a young age in indie flicks as well as big blockbusters.

Chalamet could also follow in DiCaprio's footsteps by appearing in Time 100 - the magazine's list of the top 100 most influential people - next.  DiCaprio appeared in the list 2016, and last year's list featured actors Taraji P. Henson, Dev Patel, Colman Domingo, Alia Bhatt, Jeffrey Wright, and Leslie Odom Jr., among others.

Chalamet admitted that while his SAG Award didn't signify he had achieved greatness yet, it is a "little more fuel" and "ammo to keep going" in his pursuit of greatness.  And a Time 100 appearance could be another step towards the distinction he so desires.

His idol Day-Lewis previously appeared in the Time 100 list and even featured on the cover of Time magazine, where he was described as the "World's Greatest Actor".  And in 1999, one of Chalamet's other idols, Brando, was one of only six actors listed in the Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century list.

Chalamet is just 8/11 to appear in this year's Time 100 list, and it would certainly do his lofty aspirations no harm.

Chalamet's Dylan Duet

Chalamet invested five-and-a-half years of his life to perfect portraying a young Dylan. He has already been rewarded with a Best Actor prize at the SAG Awards, and could receive even more recognition at the Oscars.

In his SAGs speech, he admitted it was the "honour of a lifetime" portraying the music icon, who he described as "a true American hero", and he is just 6/4 to release a single with Dylan.

While he looks set to concentrate on his professional career for years to come off the back of this year's Oscars, Chalamet is currently dating reality TV star Kylie Jenner. Social media is often awash with speculation about the couple, and it's just 2/1 Chalamet pops the question to the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star next.

He is also likely to be in demand in celebrity circles following his Oscars campaign. Chalamet is just 3/1 to host sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live again, after doing so in 2020, but he might be too busy behind the camera instead.

As well as leading the cast of A Complete Unknown, Chalamet also produced the motion picture, and he will do the same in his next movie - Marty Supreme.

Directed by Josh Safdie, Chalamet will portray Marty, a character who is said to be inspired by late professional table tennis player Marty Reisman. However, the story is expected to be fictionalised, instead of a biopic.

With two producer credits in consecutive years, Chalamet is edging nearer to becoming a director, and he is 4/1 to helm a movie next.  However, was Chalamet's SAG Awards speech a hint that he won't be stepping behind the camera anytime soon?

The actor name-checked Day-Lewis and Brando as two actors he is inspired by.  However, Day-Lewis didn't helm a movie, and Brando only directed one, Western film One-Eyed Jacks, which he also appeared in, after original director Stanley Kubrick was fired.

The Name's Chalamet, Timothee Chalamet

Chalamet will be in huge demand whether or not he makes Oscars history on Sunday night.  Amazon MGM Studios have recently taken creative control of the James Bond franchise, and, like many studios, Chalamet could be at the top of their wish list to play a character in the next movie.

While it probably wouldn't be the coveted suave spy part, Chalamet could effortlessly turn his hand to portray a Bond battling villain.  Appearing in the next Bond movie may not sound like a perfect stepping stone on the way to Chalamet's greatness goal, though.

While the movies are iconic in the UK, they aren't exactly known for their haul of accolades, and a Bond film is yet to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. However, Chalamet has shown in his previous work that he is prepared to go down to the blockbuster route - appearing in the likes of Wonka and, of course, Dune - as part of his career.

It's 6/1 he is cast in the next Bond movie and a juicy 8/1 he appears in his first-ever superhero film next. He's previously been warned off such motion pictures by his Don't Look Up co-star DiCaprio.

Speaking in 2024, Chalamet told The New York Times: "Well, Leonardo DiCaprio said to me, 'No superhero movies, no hard drugs.' Which I thought was very good."

However, it was a Batman film that gave him the acting bug in the first place, so he hasn't ruled out a superhero movie role.

He added: "But the movie that made me want to act is a superhero movie, The Dark Knight. If the script was great, if the director was great, I’d have to consider it."

As well as being in demand with casting directors, fashion brands could also come calling for Chalamet in their droves soon.  He's no stranger to an advertising campaign after being the face of Chanel's men's fragrance Bleu de Chanel in 2023, and he has previously worked with Cartier and Nahmias.

Chalamet is 5/1 to appear in a Levi's advert next, after Dylan's famous Levi's 501s were recreated for his biopic and worn by Chalamet in the movie.

What's more, e-bike bosses might be looking to recruit the Dune actor for their next ad, after he rocked up at the UK premiere of A Complete Unknown on one of London's Lime bikes.

He cycled down the red carpet on the bike and flicked open the stand before posing for pictures.  While the stunt was a comical one, it landed Chalamet in hot water.  The star later claimed he had been hit with a £65 fine for failing to park the bike correctly in a designated area.

Speaking on French chat show Quotidien, he said: "There was a traffic jam, and I actually wasn’t allowed to park there, and I got a £65 fine."

It's 10/1 he appears in an e-bike advert next.
