A man who won one million AED in the United Arab Emirates lottery has said he was completely surprised and overjoyed when he found out he had won.
The UAE Lottery announced its latest millionaire, Beauregard Lim, a long-time UAE resident from Manila, Philippines. While the Philippines is rapidly expanding its online and land-based casino industry and could soon surpass Singapore as Asia's second-largest gambling market, one Filipino found luck far from home.
Beauregard’s future took a new direction overnight after winning AED 1 million, becoming the second million-dirham winner since the launch of the UAE Lottery. Lucky man, who has been in the UAE since 2004, has worked in cargo and logistics, supporting his family back home. He discovered the UAE Lottery on social media and decided to take a chance by trying his luck.
Speaking exclusively to Casinos.com, Beauregard said: “The first person I told was my wife. That day, I checked my phone before I went to bed, and I saw a notification that read: ‘CONGRATULATIONS.’ I couldn’t believe it.
"My wife and I double-checked, and the numbers were all there. It was real!”
We asked Beauregard how he planned to use the prize money—spend, save, or invest. He said: “The first thing that came to my mind was to invest in a business that provides a stable source of income. I want to make sure that my children have opportunities within the Philippines and don’t have to leave home to find a job.”

Winning that amount of money is a life changer, so we were curious as to how Beauregard’s life would change. He responded, “Winning AED 1 million means more than just a financial boost — it gives me peace of mind and lasting security for me and my family.
"The first thing that came to my mind was to invest in a business so I can guarantee a stable monthly income, something that could support us consistently over time.”
With that much money in his bank account, he may not have to play the lottery again, but Casinos.com asked him if he would anyway. Unsurprisingly, he said, “Yes.”
He continued, “I will keep playing. The UAE Lottery continues to entertain and give hope to people. If you have extra money, play. But always prioritise your family’s needs first. Everything in life should have balance.”
All gamblers have a strategy, so we asked Beauregard if he had one. He replied, “I didn’t really have anything in mind. I found the UAE Lottery on Instagram and decided to try my luck.”
Being told you’ve won a million is quite a lot to take in. We asked Beauregard where he was when he heard the life-changing news. He said: “I was at home when I found out about my win. I was having a very tough day. I was feeling overwhelmed with financial stress. I had reached out to my family for help.
“Later that night, I had a vivid dream of my mother smiling at me, so I decided to try my luck again. When I saw the pop-up saying ‘CONGRATULATIONS’, I couldn’t believe it.
“My wife and I double-checked. We even watched the draw results again on YouTube just to be sure. It felt unreal at first, but when we confirmed the numbers, I knew it was real. I’m beyond grateful for this blessing.”

Travel is the main thing people who win that amount of cash plan to do. Casinos.com asked Beauregard if he had any plans to travel and which place would be the first on his itinerary.
He said: “Honestly, the only place I want to go right now is back to my home country. I’ve spent almost half of my life away, and I’ve always wanted to go back home, but I couldn’t because I didn’t have the financial means.”

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
