Come With Us to Find the Most Luxurious Casino in New Mexico

Just picture the scene: you’re driving along the historic and world-famous Route 66, stopping every now and then to grab a bite to eat and see some sights, suddenly, you spot a casino—what a win! At this point, it would be a good idea to know whether it’s one of the most luxurious casinos in the state, or a real dump. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered—we've investigated which casinos are the most luxurious in New Mexico.

There are currently 26 casinos in the state of New Mexico, with 21 being tribal casinos, and the other five commercial casinos, whose gross gaming revenue stood at $270.9 million in 2023. The industry employs around 4,400 people and although this is less than in some other states, gambling still makes a significant contribution to the economy.

We know you’re just as keen as we were to find out which casino in New Mexico offers the most luxurious experience. While we couldn’t spare the time (or budget) to go road tripping around New Mexico in search of a five-star casino experience, we managed to do a pretty good job by using Tripadvisor reviews.

We looked for mentions of keywords like "luxurious," "magnificent,” and "comfortable," and based on this, we were able to rank the casinos in the state.

Here's how we've ranked them:

There could only be one winner, and Sky City Casino came out right at the top of our list, with a luxury rating of 14.29%. “Comfortable” was the keyword mentioned the most.

One person said, “Our room was very affordable, clean, and comfortable. Nice hot water in the bathroom (previous nights stay at another place had lukewarm water.) We ate breakfast at the buffet and the food was good”.

Located in San Fidel, this casino also features an RV park, a coffee bar, and a museum, in addition to the hotel and gambling area.

In second place is Isleta Casino in Albuquerque, with a rating of 8.92%. “Comfort” and “comfortable” were mentioned 11 times, and one person said, “My experience at Isleta resort has been amazing; the staff and workers are very helpful and nice. The room was very nice and the bathroom was amazing; the water makes your skin incredibly soft (I believe they use purified river water from Rio Grande)”. Well, that sounds amazing, and we want to go immediately.

Third on the list, Route 66 Casino Hotel got 8.16%. The words "luxury," “impressive,” and “pleasure” were all used in reviews of this Albuquerque casino. With over 1,300 slots, a bingo hall, a poker room, five bars, five restaurants, and a hotel, this casino has all the makings of a luxurious experience.

As one reviewer put it, “Super nice casino. Clean. Great atmosphere. Everyone was so nice. Very fun place to visit. Didn’t win much money but loved the machines and the feel of the excitement in the place." What more could you ask for?

At the very bottom of the list, with a sad rating of just 1.04%, we have Casino Apache. This one only got two mentions of our keywords out of 172 reviews. One was "comfortable,” while the other one literally said, “This casino is not fancy." However, it sounds like the slots are okay and there’s a gas station and convenience store, so it might be okay for people just passing through Ruidoso on a road trip.

Second from the bottom, Billy The Kid Casino didn’t score much better. This one had a Luxury Rating of 1.24%, with just two keyword mentions out of 161 reviews. As one reviewer put it, “We walked in and turned around, walked out. Too dang smokey and stink like sewage." That really doesn’t fill us with confidence, so we might recommend skipping this one.
