Illinois closed out 2024 on a positive note, with the Illinois Gaming Board releasing a report revealing that casino revenue hit over $157 million in December 2024. That total was an 11.2% increase from the $141 million collected in December 2023 and a 2.7% climb from almost $153 million in November 2024.
The December 2024 revenues mark a positive year for Illinois casinos, with revenues increasing year-on-year in other months like June, July, and August.
While the Illinois Gaming Board’s report includes 18 casinos, December 2024 proved to be a lesson in how individual casinos can influence results.
For starters, a new casino launched in Illinois in December 2023, with Wind Creek Illinois opening its doors in November 2024. December 2024 was the first full month for Wind Creek IL, and it added $11.2 million in revenue, the third-most of any casino in Illinois.
Additionally, Hard Rock Casino Rockford saw its revenues increase by over 85% year-on-year, hitting over $12 million in November 2024. The added revenue from Wind Creek IL and the increase from Hard Rock Casino Rockford is around $16.8 million, more than the $15.8 million rise in state-wide revenues between December 2023 and 2024.

Meanwhile, Par-A-Dice Casino saw the most significant revenue drop, falling by 9.6% to just over $5 million in December 2024. Grand Victoria Casino and Golden Nugget Danville (owned by Danville Development, LLC) revenues declined by 8.8% to $11.7 million and $3.4 million, respectively.
While the Illinois gaming industry continues to thrive, more operators could be coming soon with a new bill expected to be filed to permit Decatur to host a casino. The “Soybean Capital of the World” was not one of the five locations initially granted a regional casino license, but a proposal from Revolutionary Racing pledges to invest $150 million into a 60,000-foot gaming facility.
An opening date of 2026 is under discussion, so any new launch won’t impact Illinois’ casino revenues in the short term.
