There are 28 land-based casinos in Mississippi, with casino gaming over 30 years old in the state, having celebrated 25 years of casino gaming back in 2016. So Mississippians have plenty of options to choose from if they want to play slots for real money or try hit 21 in blackjack, even if casino sites are not yet legalized in the Magnolia State.
And it's good for the state, too. In 2022, the gross gaming revenue for Mississippi cracked the top 10 in the entire US at $2.57 billion. Casinos in the state of Mississippi also employ over 40,000 people, with around $800 million in tax impact and tribal revenue share. It's not Vegas, but the casino industry here is thriving.
So, with plenty of land-based gambling opportunities, we wondered where precisely the luckiest place to hit the casino floor was. We measured 21 of the most popular casinos in the state to find out which is the luckiest casino and, in turn, which is the unluckiest out of the following;
To do this, our research and analytics teams scraped review data on each of the casinos listed above related to luck-related keywords. So, for example, reviews that had one instance of "lucky", "won", "winning", "success" and other terms that could signal some big wins.
Well, if we had the ultimate secret sauce, we'd be chilling in our own private casino paradise instead of writing this article. But hey, here we are. How casino games work is based on odds and calculations, even with slight differences. You've got your slot volatilities, blackjack house rules, and who knows what else! Our data? It's like the gossip from seasoned gamblers who've actually been there, done that, and splurged their hard-earned cash. Let's spill the beans.
And the winner is...
According to our research, we can now say that the luckiest casino in all of Mississippi, according to reviews, is the Silver Star Casino in Choctaw, MS. Over 500 rooms to house their guests, they also boast 1,200 slot machines and a 90,000 square foot casino floor. Not bad, not bad at all.
And with a luck percentage of 39.18%, it's by far the best place to try your luck in the state of Mississippi if the reviews are anything to go by.
In a respectable second place is the 1st Jackpot Casino in Tunica Resorts The former Bally's property, owned by Gaming & Leisure Property, spans 46.535 square feet with nearly 900 slot machines and 16 table games.
The Pearl River Resort and Casino in Choctaw is next in line, with an impressive 30.53% keyword luck rating. Boasting two golf courses and the 'Southeast's #1 water theme park', guests might want to ditch their clubs or swim gear for the slots if reviews are to be believed.
Completing the top three was the Silver Slipper Casino Hotel in Bay Saint Louis. With a luck rating of 20.98%, they are a distant third but third nonetheless, and have the added benefit of being a beachfront resort so you can cool off in the ocean sea if luck doesn't go your way at the tables.
Someone has to hold this title, and unfortunately, it belongs to the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica. By far the most reviewed establishment with over 12,000 patrons taking time out of their day to report on their stay. However, very few of these reported any luck, with just 9.17% of reviews featuring the luck-related keywords selected for this study.
IP Casino Resort in Biloxi didn't fare much better at 12.28%, and was just beaten out by their neighbors, the Hard Rock Hotel, at 12.35%.
Casinos.com utilized Tripadvisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with luck to determine the luckiest and unluckiest casinos in the state of Mississippi. We calculated the percentage of luck-rated mentions in the total Tripadvisor reviews and calculated the percentage for each casino.
