MGM Resorts and BetMGM Launch Responsible Gambling Initiative at NFL Stadiums

On Thursday, September 5, the regular NFL season will kick off with Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens traveling to Arrowhead Stadium to face the recent two-time Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes.

The NFL season isn’t the only show in town kicking off, as September 1 marked the start of Responsible Gambling Month. To commence this special month filled with sports competition and betting, hospitality and gambling operator MGM International and its digital arm BetMGM available in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan and 16 other states, have announced the launch of a campaign to raise awareness of safe gambling in several NFL stadiums across the country.

GHEA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs, is one of nine stadiums where the companies will promote GameSense, a responsible gambling body launched by MGM International in 2017. The company plans to make GameSense marketing ads and materials frequently displayed in prime locations across the football grounds.

The other stadiums include Acrisure Stadium (Pittsburgh Steelers), Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas Raiders), Empower Field at Mile High (Denver Broncos), Ford Field (Detroit Lions), M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore Ravens), MetLife Stadium (New York Jets), Nissan Stadium (Tennessee Titans), and State Farm Stadium (Arizona Cardinals).

“We’re excited to bring responsible gaming initiatives directly to fans in these NFL venues again this season,” commented Rhea Loney, BetMGM’s Chief Compliance Officer.

“We are setting a new standard for safety and awareness in the industry. At BetMGM, we believe that protecting our players and promoting responsible play is essential to the future of sports betting.” added Loney.

MGM Resorts is also set to display GameSense messaging on table games at its properties across the nation. These messages will also continue to feature on its slot machines, 8,000 of which include QR codes that players can scan for access to responsible gambling information from GameSense.

Collaboration Is Key

BetMGM and MGM Resorts have announced a renewal of their partnership with the American Gaming Association (AGA) for RGEM, with Joe Maloney, the SVP of Strategic Communications at the AGA, commenting:

“Collaboration is integral to strengthening our collective responsibility efforts,” adding, “MGM Resorts and BetMGM continue to be leaders in forming innovative partnerships that are advancing responsible gaming in meaningful ways.”

The press release revealed that MGM Resorts has made a $440,000 donation to the International Center for Responsible Gaming and Kindbridge Research Institute, which goes towards responsible gaming research to advance industry best practices and fill gaps in understudied populations.

“The importance of responsible gaming research funding cannot be overstated,” commented Stephen Martino, SVP and Chief Compliance Officer at MGM Resorts.

“As a gaming industry leader, it’s imperative that our company supports efforts to better understand the diverse impact gambling has on various populations, including those that may be at greater risk of developing problematic behaviors.”

New and Improved Features

The latest BetMGM press release also mentioned that the company plans to release improved responsible gaming tools on its online platform, “designed to help players manage their budgets, stay within their limits, and promote a responsible and sustainable entertainment experience.”

At the same time, the company announced plans to release several new responsible gambling advertisements over the next few months. These ads are to feature brand ambassadors, following the release of a 30-second ad featuring NHL MVP Connor McDavid in March of this year.
