Missouri Riverboat Casino Revenues Nosedive at the Beginning of FY25

As July 2024 marks the start of FY2025, the new financial year for casino revenue reporting in Missouri, monthly data from the Missouri Gaming Commission shows it has been a tough start.

Riverboat casinos in the state saw Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) of $155,192,338, a decrease of nearly 8.2 percent from the $168,461,286 recorded in July 2023.

Admissions to riverboat casino destinations were also down across the state, with an 8 percent year-on-year drop in visitors to gambling facilities. Some casinos’ visitor numbers dropped by over 20 percent.

Poor AGR Performances Across Missouri

There are 13 licensed riverboat casinos in Missouri, with 11 of these seeing a year-on-year AGR drop in July 2024. While some casinos only posted marginal AGR changes, with Century-Caruthersville only seeing AGR slipping by 1 percent, the decline was much more significant for many casinos.

Isle of Capri Casino Hotel Boonville experienced the most drastic change, with AGR decreasing 18 percent year-on-year.

Other casinos that had AGR dropped by a double-digit percentage include Harrahs KC (17 percent) and Horseshoe St. Louis (15 percent), both owned by Caesars Entertainment, as well as Mark Twain Casino (11 percent).

July a Step Up from June

While the year-on-year numbers for Missouri show a decline in AGR, most casinos performed better in July 2024 than in June 2024. Horseshoe St. Louis and Bally’s Kansas City delivered the most significant increases, growing AGR month-on-month by 8.26 percent and 5.25 percent, respectively.

AGR for Missouri went from $154,738,164 to $155,192,338 month-on-month, a marginal 0.29 percent increase.
