Most Luxurious Casinos in Mississippi

Can you believe that you can cruise up the Mississippi River and play slots at the same time? It sounds almost too good to be true, if you ask us. 

Gambling in Mississippi has been a pretty contentious issue since the early 20th century, when religious residents of the state were less than keen on casinos. Finally, in 1990, they were legalized, with the first one being the Golden Nugget Biloxi. Since then, commercial casinos, tribal casinos, and even casinos on riverboats have opened up in the state, with the total now standing at 29 locations. 

The casino industry in Mississippi supports around 41,000 jobs, which is quite a lot for a state that doesn’t have a particularly huge population (about 2.9 million). With gross gaming revenue of $2.48 billion in 2023 and an overall economic impact of $6.54 billion, there’s no denying that gambling is a major industry in the state.

But not all casinos can be opulent, five-star experiences, so we decided to try to figure out which ones are. 

So, how did we find the most luxurious casinos in Mississippi? Unfortunately, we didn’t have the time to visit each and every casino to test the pillows and check the thread count of the sheets, so we sent our team of experts on a mission to analyze Tripadvisor reviews. 

We looked out for words like "luxurious," "fancy," and "pleasure,"  and whichever casino had the most mentions ranked the highest on our list.

So let’s get right into it. According to our research, the most luxurious casino in the entire state of Mississippi is Horseshoe Casino in Tunica, with a pretty respectable 18.71% on the Luxury Scale. This was also the casino that had the most reviews in total, sitting at just over 12,000. 

The casino boasts over 1,500 slots, as well as table games, and plenty of dining options. With 720 people calling the experience “comfortable” and 44 calling it a pleasure, we weren’t at all surprised to see a review that said, “All rooms are luxury; even though you might not be spending much time in them. Food is top notch. Buffet has every offering, and the snack bar excellent. All restaurants worth the cost”. 

At number two, and quite far behind the leader was Scarlet Pearl Casino, with 12.33%. Three people called this one "impressive,” and another 15 reviews used the word "comfortable.” Scarlet Pearl offers over 1,100 slot games, plus table games, and there are restaurants, bars, and scenic views from the rooms. 

“The high limit area, OR, has been remodeled and is very impressive. Beautiful decor, comfy seating, and excellent service.”

Sounds great to us!

At number three on the list, we have IP Casino Resort, which got 10.83%. According to one happy customer, “2 levels of gaming and a fantastic restaurant on the first floor. Not a lot of luck here as far as gaming goes but a great view of the water and a Vegas vibe”. Vegas vibe? Count us in. 

But it wouldn’t be a balanced review without giving you a glimpse at the other end of the scale. 

The very worst on our list is Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast, and with only 3.60%, that’s a far cry from the luxury of Hollywood, California. 

Our keywords were only mentioned four times out of 111 reviews, and although Hollywood Casino promises a jacuzzi and a golf course, many reviews called the rooms dirty and lamented the strange opening hours of the buffet (3pm onwards, just in case you’re planning your trip). 

Second from the bottom was the Magnolia Bluffs Casino Hotel, with 4.3%. And while it looks pretty nice from the outside, one review said, “The furniture is all old, scratched, and dirty. The beds are old, sagging mattresses. The flooring is all laminate and not installed very good”, so we might give it a miss.

Methodology 

Casinos.com utilized Tripadvisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with luxury to determine the most luxurious casinos in the state of Mississippi. We calculated the percentage of luxury-rated mentions in the total Tripadvisor reviews.
