Most Romantic Illinois Casinos for a Date Night

There are so many ways that you can romance your lover this Valentine’s Day. Maybe dinner at a luxurious Italian restaurant. Perhaps a sweet picnic in a meadow. How about a boat trip? Well, if you’re anything like us, you’d choose a trip to your local casino destination over any of those. 

If you’re thinking about having date night at the casino, you’ll need to choose the location pretty carefully. So how exactly does one go about finding out which Illinois casino is the most romantic? Well, one way to do it would be to visit each of the 16 casinos in the state and rank them for ourselves. But sadly, we didn’t get the budget for that, so we had to make do with Tripadvisor.

We checked the reviews of each casino for mentions of certain keywords like “marriage,” “honeymoon,” and “proposal,” and based on how many times each word came up, we were able to assign each casino a ranking on our special scale.

These are the Illinois casinos that we looked at:

• Bally's Quad Cities Casino & Hotel (previously Jumer's Casino Rock Island)
• Harrah's Joliet Casino
• Rivers Casino Des Plaines
• Harrah's Metropolis
• Hollywood Casino Joliet
• FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing
• Hollywood Casino Aurora
• DraftKings at Casino Queen
• Par-A-Dice Casino
• Grand Victoria Casino Elgin
• Argosy Casino Alton

Let’s get right into it. Par-A-Dice Casino came out on top with a rating of 1.32%, based on four keyword mentions out of 302 reviews. Once we stopped chuckling at the very clever pun in the name of this casino, we took a look at what Tripadvisor had to say. 

Par-A-Dice is actually a riverboat casino—what could be more romantic than a boat? 

One reviewer told a very sob story about kids and wedding expenses and bad experiences at other casinos but ended with, “The area was beautiful, the hotel and casino were absolutely awesome and the people there, WOW, some of the nicest I have ever met in my life. Thank you, Par-a-Dice hotel/casino for making our honeymoon a great one!!!!!!”. 

So. Many. Exclamation marks. It must be great.

DraftKings at Casino Queen was next on the list, with 0.85%. The keywords called out the most were “married,” “romantic,” and “wedding.” 

Said one review, “We were given a Jacuzzi room overlooking downtown St. Louis and the Arch. The view of downtown St. Louis at night was very romantic. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable.” 

Do you hear that? A jacuzzi. What dreams are made of!

Amongst the 2,000+ reviews of Bally's Quad Cities Casino & Hotel, our keywords were mentioned 15 times, so the casino got an overall rating of 0.73%. Featuring a salon, day spa, and four restaurants, Bally's Quad Cities Casino sounds like a pretty good option for a romantic date. 

The casino is also a very popular wedding venue, with one review saying, “We went for a wedding, which they did a wonderful job with detail and the wedding was beautiful.”

Disappointingly, there were two casinos that didn’t get any mentions of our keywords at all. Argosy Casino Alton was one of them. Not one review amongst the 170+ on Tripadvisor referred to the experience as being in any way romantic. 

Even though this riverboat casino looks great from the outside and has plenty of gambling options, there are quite a few along the lines of this one: “Too crowded, nothing to drink and stuck on 1 floor because the other two are closed now. Lucky if you can get a machine you like. Just not enjoyable.”

The other casino that scored a zero was FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing in Collinsville. And let’s be honest here, a racetrack is probably not a great place for a date, even if you and your partner are both into racing. 

“Wow. Where do I start? This place is dark and dirty. You might think that's normal for a racetrack, but it's not at the ones we visit. Save your money and cleaning bills and don't go here.” Cleaning bills? What are they talking about?

Finally, Rivers Casino Des Plaines got a pretty sad rating of 0.26% on the scale, with three keyword mentions out of 775 reviews. “Horrible experience. Might as well throw your cash in the garbage can,” said one review. 

We don’t know about you, but that doesn’t sound particularly romantic. As one review said, you may as well save your cash and go to Las Vegas instead. They even have an Eiffel Tower.

Methodology 

Casinos.com utilized Tripadvisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with being romantic to determine the Illinois casino that is the most romantic. We calculated the percentage of memorable-related mentions in the total Tripadvisor reviews.
