Nevada Sportsbooks Score All-Time Win Record from Super Bowl LIX

Nevada sportsbooks won a record $22.13 million from Super Bowl LIX wagers, according to initial unaudited data released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board. While the amount won from the Philadelphia Eagles’ destruction of the Kansas City Chiefs was a record, the $151.6 million wagered on the game was the lowest since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.

The resulting hold percentage for sportsbooks was a whopping 14.6%—more than any other Super Bowl in the past decade, according to the board. For reference, Nevada sportsbooks held 5.6% from football wagers in 2024.

The 2023 Super Bowl between the Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers saw $190.02 million in wagers—a Nevada record. This year’s game was still the sixth-most-wagered-on Super Bowl in the state.

Mobile Wagering on Super Bowl Should Outpace In-Person Bets

Official Super Bowl revenue will be revealed with the rest of February gaming revenue in a couple of months. It appears most Super Bowl wagers were likely placed via mobile betting.

Michael Lawton, senior economic analyst for the Nevada Gaming Control Board, told Casinos.com, “I would assume that it is not too different from the annual trend we saw in 2024, which saw mobile account for 58.3% of all football wagers.”

Most states with legal online sports betting see 80% or more of wagers placed outside a casino. However, Nevada’s mobile sports betting requires in-person registration at a casino, resulting in a lower percentage of online sports wagers.

Biggest Betting Event In The History Of BetMGM

Sportsbook operators around the country scored big wins, and Las Vegas-based BetMGM saw massive results from Super Bowl LIX betting. Christian Cipollini, senior trading manager at BetMGM, said:

"Super Bowl LIX was the single biggest betting event in the history of BetMGM—it took the most bets, and was one of the best single game results in company history. Super Bowl bettors cashed in on Eagles money line and Jalen Hurts Super Bowl MVP, but both defenses slowing down Saquon Barkley and Travis Kelce netted a great result for us."

BetMGM didn't win every wager on the game; its biggest loss was an $800,000 bet on the Eagles' moneyline at +110.

Super Bowl Was Mixed Bag in Las Vegas

While sportsbooks won a record amount from Super Bowl betting, the rest of the venues inside of casinos didn’t fare as well during the weekend. The city wasn’t empty, but it wasn’t as busy as in previous years.

During the recent round of earnings calls, executives from every casino corporation noted that first-quarter room rates will be down since the Super Bowl isn’t being played in Las Vegas this year.

This was an interesting Super Bowl for Las Vegas casino operators. First, room rates were lower than when Las Vegas hosted the Big Game a year ago. Second, at least one Vegas Strip casino operator had a slew of open rooms just before the game and was forced to drop rates drastically.

Visitors' Point of View

One thread on the Vegas Big Game Facebook Group discussed the topic. One longtime visitor posited:

“We've been coming to Vegas for the Super Bowl for roughly the last 25 years or so. We had a great time again this year but very shocked to see the volume of people so low ... Are you all seeing and feeling the same reduction in traffic overall? Normally the sidewalks and the casinos are just packed to the hilt but not the case this year from our perspective.”

The discussion was a rare one for the internet—almost 100% agreement. While everyone seemed to have a great time, Las Vegas was less busy than in previous years. This included watch parties, table games, restaurants, and even foot traffic.

When previewing where to watch the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, we noted some obscene prices to reserve seats in a sportsbook and for certain parties. Prices have been steadily climbing for the past decade, but this year may have been an inflection point.

A price check of Caesars Las Vegas hotel room rates showed a sharp decline after the four-day cancellation window ended. This is typical for most Las Vegas casinos, but this time, weekend room rates dropped below $100 before fees—an unusual trend for one of the busiest weekends of the year.

Businesses will continue raising prices until customers stop paying. Could this be the start of a price correction for Las Vegas casinos?

If the first weekend of March Madness shows similar results, changes could be on the horizon.

Everyone Had a Blast Watching the Super Bowl in Vegas

Not everyone who visits Las Vegas is price-sensitive. Many visitors don’t mind spending a few hundred dollars to party all day.

As usual, one of the most unique Super Bowl watch parties took place outside at Circa’s Stadium Swim. The massive rooftop pool complex features a 143-foot video screen.

Circa isn’t a cheap viewing option with general admission for the pool complex starting at $125. Prices went into the thousands for this one-of-a-kind party.

If you like the vibe, it might be the right spot for a March Madness viewing party, which happens during Spring Break.

Not everyone was looking for a fancy party. Locals and tourists alike flocked to Red Rock Casino for a variety of parties and it’s very large sportsbook, which offered open seating.

As a resident of this part of Las Vegas, I’ve watched many many games at this sportsbook and between the great staff and huge video screens it’s always a good time. It’s particularly great for the first weekend of March Madness, where you’ll probably catch me working in a food court before tip of the first game.

Fontainebleau is still relatively new to the Vegas Strip and seems to be hitting its stride for parties. The casino created a hype reel of all the Super Bowl action and it looked like a blast with a variety of experiences.
