These Are the Luckiest Casinos in Alabama, According to Reviewers

Sweet Home Alabama! The Yellowstone state has a complicated history with casinos and gambling, that’s for sure. It’s been a point of political debate for decades—over 120 years in fact. In 2021, as more states began to regulate gambling, the Alabama gambling bill failed by two votes in the senate.

In the early 1900s, 1901 to be exact, the Constitution of the State of Alabama made all gambling illegal. Since then, there have been various regulatory changes that have made the likes of gambling, casinos, and bingo more accessible.

In February 2024, for the first time ever, the Alabama House passed legislation to approve casino gambling (YAY), with reports that sports wagering and a state lottery were en route too. Unfortunately, this failed, and Alabamians now have to wait until 2025 to see if anything will change.

Alabama is home, however, to three tribal casinos, with four casinos in total operating in the state. They are:

  • Wind Creek Casino & Hotel Wetumpka
  • Wind Creek Casino
  • Wind Creek Montgomery
  • VictoryLand Casino

So, despite its confusing history with gambling, there are some land-based gambling opportunities in the form of casinos, and hey, look at us, Casinos.com.

We wondered where exactly the luckiest place to hit the casino floor was in Alabama, so we scraped all four casinos in the state to find out which is the luckiest casino. Also, with finding the luckiest casino, it also technically means we’ll come across the unluckiest, but who wants that?

To do this, our research and analytics teams scraped review data on each of the casinos listed above related to luck-related keywords. So, for example, reviews that had one instance of "lucky," "won," "winning," "success," and other terms that could signal some big wins.

Who Takes the Crown for Alabama’s Luckiest Casino?

Drumroll please…

We can confirm, after scraping the reviews at all four casinos that we could find in Alabama, that Wind Creek Montgomery prevailed as the luckiest with an incredible 41.67% on our luck rating scale!

We’ve done quite a few of these from state to state, and 41.67% is a pretty damn high score. So pat on the back for you, Wind Creek Montgomery. But what are the patrons saying?

Well, out of 192 reviews, we had 31 mentions of ‘won’ and 16 mentions of ‘jackpot’. Not too shabby if you ask us.

“The casinos had several interesting slots that we enjoyed playing and a couple of us even won jackpots,” Alice glowed. Lucky you, Alice.

There were multiple good scores when it came to Alabama, with second-placed VictoryLand Casino posting an impressive 37.18%. VictoryLand Casino, based on the I-85 at Exit 22 in Shorter, Alabama, is the only non-tribal casino on the list. A testament perhaps to the luck you can get there, they ran a competition in July 2024 where you could win a Mercedes Benz! Sounds good to us.

And you could use that Mercedes Benz to drive to every casino in the state, because all four casinos can boast high luck percentage scores! So, moving on to third in the list (or second last, whatever way you decide to look at it—but we’re glass half full folks here, so we’re going to say third).

Top 4 Luckiest Casinos in Alabama

In third place was the Wind Creek Casino & Hotel Wetumpka, just marginally behind VictoryLand, with 36.57% on our luck rating scale. The highest reviewed casino in the state with 443 reviews at the time of writing, visitors mentioned “won,” “winning,” and “success” in excess throughout their reviews.

With 2000 games on offer, the Wetumpka Casino says their floor is a ‘playground for big wins.’

“I went back after lunch and won 900 dollars on the Sir Mix A Lot machine! I'm not much of a gambler. I cashed out and left with my winnings!” said Tracy.

Not a bad day’s work at all, if we say so ourselves.

It feels harsh to say that Wind Creek Casino is the unluckiest in Alabama, but unfortunately that’s what they have been tagged as our data has revealed. Let us caveat this by saying that a luck percentage score of 33.96% would place them high on the list across multiple other states.

But alas, the badge has to go to someone. For Wind Creek, with just two mentions of the keyword ‘luck’ and no mentions of ‘profit’, it seems the Atmore based property is just marginally less “lucky” than other casinos in the Heart of Dixie.

Methodology

Casinos.com utilized Tripadvisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with luck to determine the luckiest and unluckiest casinos in the state of Alabama. We calculated the percentage of luck-rated mentions in the total Tripadvisor reviews. Only casinos with a qualifying amount of reviews were selected to represent a fair data sample size.

Keywords tracked: Lucky, Luck, Winning, Big Win, Winner, Bonus, Profit, Success, Jackpot, Hand Pay

This data was collected in July 2024.
