Kentucky is perhaps most famous for its horse racing, in particular the Kentucky Derby. But it's not just horse racing that Kentuckians can bet on; online sports betting is also available to natives, despite joining the party later than other states, some five years after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act in May 2018.
Unfortunately, betting at casino sites still isn’t an option in Kentucky, although we personally hope it comes pretty soon. Did our name give it away?
The Bluegrass State does not have any conventional casinos. Instant racing betting machines, which look like standard slot machines but are actually gaming machines that provide outcomes based on previous horse races, are available at some of Kentucky's racecourse casinos. The spinning reels on the machines are purely for show.
So while there are no traditional casino destinations, there is still the opportunity to enjoy slots at some locations, alongside thoroughbred racing and virtual horse racing. Casinos definitely aren’t the bread and butter for Kentucky in terms of gambling, but there is a small cohort of people who still like to get their casino games fix.
In any case, we reasoned that it would be wise to discover which Kentucky casino has the best odds. To determine which casino is the luckiest, we looked through reports of all the casinos in the state in the form of Tripadvisor reviews. Though we can't really say so, it also theoretically implies that we'll encounter the unluckiest casinos over the course of the study.
Our analytics and research teams gathered review data on luck-related terms from each of the casinos mentioned above. Reviews that, according to our technique, contained a single occurrence of the terms "lucky," "won," "winning," "success," and other terms that would indicate some significant wins; nonetheless, it should be highlighted that this data should only be used for amusement only and not to actually try get lucky at any given casino.
Here are the casinos we ranked:
We can confirm, after scraping the reviews at all three casinos that we could find in Kentucky, that Oak Grove Racing Gaming prevailed as the luckiest with an incredible 53.73% on our luck rating scale!
We’ve done quite a few of these from state to state, and 53.73% is a pretty darn high score. So pat on the back for you, Oak Grove Racing Gaming.
But what are the patrons saying? Well, out of 67 reviews, we had 9 mentions of ‘won’ and 8 mentions of ‘jackpot’, which is a pretty decent percentage given the amount of reviews overall.
There were multiple good scores when it came to Kentucky, with second placed The Mint Gaming Hall at Kentucky Downs posting a respectable 34.18%. The Mint Gaming Hall at Kentucky Downs, based in Franklin, Kentucky, can hang this score on their mantlepiece, achieved by various mentions of "won" (19) and "jackpot" (7).
With a luck rating of 11.90%, Derby City Gaming & Hotel came in last, quite some way below their closest rivals, the Kentucky Downs' The Mint Gaming Hall. At the time of writing, the state's most highly reviewed casino had 311 reviews. Despite having the highest number of reviews, they only totaled one keyword more than Oak Grove Racing Gaming, even with a whopping 244 more reviews!
So there you have it. Out of the three casinos in the state with enough reviews to qualify for data collection, the Derby City Gaming & Hotel takes last (or third) place. With fewer mentions of the keywords ‘luck’ and ‘profit’, it seems that this Kentucky-based property is just marginally less “lucky” than other casinos in the Bluegrass State.
Casinos.com utilized Tripadvisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with luck to determine the luckiest and unluckiest casinos in the state of Kentucky. We calculated the percentage of luck-rated mentions in the total Tripadvisor reviews.
