There are several thousand casino destinations all across the US, but some really stand out. There are a few reasons for that—some casinos offer a truly luxurious experience with massive suites and marble bathrooms, while others offer tons of dining options and live entertainment venues on site. Plus, some casinos are always a little luckier than others! But there’s one other factor that can have a major impact on your experience at a casino, and that’s the staff. From friendly front desk team members to helpful housekeeping and valets, you’re sure to get service with a smile.
But what’s the best way to find out which casino has the best staff?
While it can be a little subjective, and it might largely depend on which particular member of staff is helping you on the day, we thought we could trust actual customer reviews over anything else. So, we headed to Tripadvisor to see what people were saying about each casino’s staff. We tracked some specific keywords like “friendly” and “helpful,” and based on the number of mentions, we were able to rank the casinos.
Here are the casinos we took a closer look at:
We can exclusively reveal that the casino in the US with the best staff is ... Riverwind Casino in Norman, Oklahoma. While this city may be only the third most populous in the state, its casino has the best staff in the whole country.
Riverwind got a massive 92.48% on the scale, with 578 out of 625 reviews mentioning one of our keywords. 204 reviews mentioned the word “friendly.”
One review says, “The customer service is awesome. When I walk in, I am greeted with a warm smile and a friendly greeting”.
Other reviews called out particular staff members by name, so we’re sure they’re pretty legit.
Taking second place, Silverton Casino Lodge in Las Vegas got an impressive 68.76% on the scale. Located quite far off the strip (several miles south of the airport), Silverton has recently undergone a $40 million renovation, live entertainment, an aquarium (we read online that they have literal mermaids), and lots of exciting jackpots. But beyond all the bells and whistles, it seems that customers regard staff as one of the main highlights of visiting.
“We love the Silverton and enjoy all it has to offer. The staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms are clean, beautiful, and comfortable. We love bringing our family and friends to the Silverton to enjoy all that it has to offer. We will be back. Soon.” Many other reviews were along the same lines, complimenting staff for their assistance in all aspects.
Harrah's Council Bluffs in Iowa came in at number three on the list. And speaking of places we’ve never heard of, let’s add Council Bluffs, Iowa, to that list (we Googled it, and it’s famous for the red light district and for being the hometown of a Power Ranger). Anyway, this casino got a rating of 68.65%, with more than 850 people mentioning the word “friendly.”
One review said, “Very clean and friendly, helpful staff. Will stay here again. Check-in was very fast and friendly. Desserts at the lunch counter were delicious. Casino drink servers were fast and friendly. This was my second time staying here. Always a great time”. Sounds good to us.
Fourth on our list was Mohegan Sun Pocono in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, which scored 67.62%. The most common keyword mentioned here was “friendly,” which came up more than 300 times, while “helpful” was mentioned 159 times. This casino has a hotel and spa, regular live events, and even a loyalty program where you can earn points to redeem during your visits. But what makes the staff so special?
“I was able to check in a little early; rooms are always spacious, somewhat luxurious, with plenty of electrical outlets, and everything works! Staff is always very helpful and courteous!! Elevators are plenty fast and never have to wait long”. After having experienced the wait for the elevators in the Flamingo (or pretty much any other Vegas hotel), we can kind of see where they’re coming from with that ultra-niche comment…
In fifth place, we have Tulalip Resort Casino in Tulalip, Washington, which was rated 58.05% on our scale. This casino promises “luxury and excitement,” according to their website. There’s a world-class spa, an AAA Four Diamond hotel, and numerous dining options, in addition to the slots, table games, bingo, and sportsbook. Over 400 people used the word “friendly” in their reviews, while 200+ also referred to the staff as “helpful.”
“Hotel, rooms and staff are excellent! The comfort and quality of the rooms and the hotel experience are superior. The staff are always helpful and friendly. I like the fact that there is entertainment, fine dining and easy access to shopping all within walking distance”, said one review.
So now that we’ve covered the casinos with the best staff, let’s move to the other end of the scale and look at the US casinos with the worst staff.
Right at the top of the bad list, we have the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. This one scored just 5.12%, but due to the sheer number of reviews (over 60,000), there were actually over 3,000 mentions of our keywords. Known to be one of the more budget-friendly options on the strip, it’s perhaps not too surprising to hear that this casino might not exactly offer the VIP treatment.
The review headlined “Real-life Pyramid experience incl. lost directions and water woes!” had to be our favourite. It went on to say, “The staff at this hotel seemed untrained or unfamiliar with basic guest assistance—asking six people for directions to our room without clear answers set the tone.”
Next, the MGM Grand Las Vegas got a rating of 6.42%. One less than favorable review said, “Rooms are badly maintained and require significant renovations. Staff is rude and unhelpful. Rewards program resets level achievement annually/not competitive. Casino staff unprofessional. This MGM property is failing badly on all levels. And no one seems to care in the least. Stay somewhere, anywhere else”. You heard them, stay anywhere else.
Doing just slightly better, with 8.14% on the scale, we have Paris in Las Vegas, which got a little over 3,000 mentions of our keywords. Boasting the famous Eiffel Tower Restaurant, European-style rooms, and fancy cocktail bars, Paris is a pretty luxurious casino, so the quality of staff should be impressive. But that’s not necessarily the case.
One review said, “The check-in process was a horrible experience. Reception staff were not helpful, and the billing department was not competent in their job, which caused a lot of confusion and issues during my check-in”, while another stated that their room had been robbed while they were in it. Yet another review summed things up pretty plainly: “Save your money and go to the real Paris in France.”
The Aria (also in Las Vegas) got 8.45% on our scale. We were a little surprised to see this, given that this casino prides itself on award-winning luxury, and you’d assume that might include the quality of the staff. But we guess not. According to one review, “The member of staff that checked us in had the personality of a rock.”
We’re not sure how the interview process for staff at the Aria works, but we really hope having the personality of a rock isn’t a requirement for working there.
Rounding out the bottom five, the Venetian received a rating of 9.07%—not what we’d like to see at this type of casino at all! Inspired by Venice, you can expect to see gondolas, sculptures, and piazzas—but will you ever see a friendly staff member? Maybe not.
One person said, “Number one complaint was the staff and security. Not very friendly, no communication within the resort. We had a very bad experience with a manager. Security felt harassing at times. We had a suite and for how much you pay to stay here, it was just mediocre. Would not recommend staying here.”
Another said that the hotel was “a bit like a Holiday Inn Express.” Now, we’ve never stayed at the Venetian, but we think that might be just a slight exaggeration.
