A night of gambling ended on an unfortunate note for two men after they were victims of armed robberies in the parking lot of Rivers Casino.
Des Plaines police reported that the incidents occurred around 2:45 AM on Saturday, December 7th when two suspects in a white Nissan Altima exited their vehicle, donned ski masks, and approached the victims.
The first victim, a 32-year-old man from Itasca, was targeted, followed by a 57-year-old man from Skokie who was robbed of approximately $2,000 in cash. Following the robberies, the suspects fled the scene in their vehicle.
In response to these incidents, a spokesperson for Rivers Casino emphasised the establishment's commitment to guest safety. "The Safety and Security of guests and team members is our top priority," the statement read. The casino has invested in several security measures, including enhanced patrols, a license plate reader system, improved lighting, and a comprehensive camera surveillance network. The casino has also provided law enforcement with relevant information from the incident.
The robbery has sparked a wave of concern among patrons and local residents, with many taking to social media to express their frustration regarding the security measures in place. Comments ranged from disappointment in the lack of visible security presence to recommendations for guests to request security escorts when leaving the casino.
“I’m not going there anymore,” one user remarked. Another noted the consistent pattern of security issues at the Rivers Casino, stating, “This is not the first time something like this has happened.”
We contacted Rivers Casino for a comment relating to the concerns of residents and guests. We did not receive a response.
In the wake of these events, police are actively investigating the robberies and are appealing for any additional information regarding the suspects or their vehicle.
Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
