What to See and Do in Las Vegas in August

This past month, Las Vegas saw record-high temperatures – with an all-time high of 120 F shattering the previous record of 117 F. According to Accuweather, August should be more mild, with temperatures dropping back into the comfortable 90s. 

August brings football to Las Vegas. The Raiders will play a couple of home preseason games at Allegiant Stadium to get ready for the regular season kickoff in September.

Casinos are already gearing up their pigskin promotions. The bar inside Aria’s Proper Food Hall has a $59 all-you-can-eat (for three hours) promotion for college and pro football games. 

There are plenty of the usual resident artists as well as some new limited engagements in Las Vegas in August. Several large arena and stadium tours are also making stops in Las Vegas this month.

As of a couple days ago, the . August will be the first month where MGM Rewards members use their benefits at The Cosmopolitan, including booking discounted or complimentary hotel rooms.

On the convention circuit, the Blackhat/WebTech USA and DEF CON conferences are taking place during the first two weeks of August. These tech wizards have special abilities that could infiltrate mobile devices or casino computer systems.

Las Vegas Residencies and Limited Engagements

Bruno Mars, Carrie Underwood, and Rod Stewart are among the returning residencies in August. The Killers are kicking off their limited engagement at Caesars Palace while Boyz II Men have their first residency shows at The Cosmopolitan after leaving The Mirage.

Big Concert Tours In Las Vegas

On the summer concert circuit, there’s tuite a variety in the big concert tours landing in Las Vegas this month, from country to rap to aging ‘80s rockers.

Las Vegas Show News And Rumors

Carrie Underwood’s residency at Resorts World has been extended into 2025. She’ll play six more shows in March and April.

Mariah Carey’s Park MGM residency also added shows in 2025. Mimi will play one show in Jan. and seven more in Feb.

Anyma was announced to play Sphere on New Year’s Eve in July. That quickly changed as numerous shows have been added. You can now see Anyma at Sphere on Dec. 27-31, 2024 and Jan. 1, 2025

DiscoShow officially opens at The Linq in September. The show celebrating disco music and its lifestyle will have some preview shows in Aug. for anyone in town looking to get a sneak peek at the newest Spiegelworld (Absinthe and more) show. Rumor: Celine Dion is returning to Las Vegas! TMZ reports that Celine is negotiating with Resorts World Las Vegas.

The free Neon City Festival will take place on multiple stages at the Fremont Street Experience from Nov. 22-24. Performers will be announced shortly. This show is taking place while the Las Vegas Grand Prix (and high prices) take over the Vegas Strip.

Sports In Las Vegas This August

The Olympics end early in the month and the Las Vegas Aces players participating in the games return home. The NFL season kicks off while combat sports continue their regular Las Vegas events.

Las Vegas Sports Event News

The NBA Cup (in-season tournament) semi-finals and final game are returning to Las Vegas. The semi-finals will occur on Dec. 14 and the Championship game is on Dec. 17 at T-Mobile Arena.

Rugby League Las Vegas will be played at Allegiant Stadium on March 1. Players from Australia, England, and New Zealand will participate in the four-match event.

Just before the end of July, Canelo Alvarez announced he would box Edgar Berlanga on Sept. 14 at T-Mobile Arena. The announcement was a bit of a surprise as it will go against UFC 306 at Sphere the same night for the venue's first MMA card.

Las Vegas News And Rumors

The Venetian Poker Room has found its new home. It's now on the second floor of the Grand Canal Shoppes near The Palazzo Tower. The casino has a Poker Rewards promotion for players through the end of the year.

Word leaked in early July that MGM Resorts was planning to expand Bellagio. The rumor is true and the company is getting local government approvals and will start work soon. We’ll keep you updated as this develops.

Speaking of Bellagio, the award-winning Picasso is closing on Aug. 16. The delicious Prime Steakhouse will temporarily move into the Picasso space starting Sept. 3. It will take MGM a couple of months to renovate Prime. The steakhouse will reopen in its normal space sometime in November.

On this topic, Lavo and Sugarcane at The Venetian are both closed for renovations and will reopen in the fall and later this summer, respectively.

Lakeside at Wynn is closed and a new Mediterranean seafood restaurant, Fiola Mare, will open in its place next year.

The delicious Scotch 80 steakhouse at Palms now has 50% off some items on its menu for Happy Hour. The ribeye cap is small but fantastic and well worth the discounted price. You can see the menu here. 

July marked the end of an era in Las Vegas. I took one to see the casino where I had so many great times. The Mirage was great but now it’s time to look forward to the new Hard Rock Las Vegas will offer visitors when it opens in a few years. It’s okay to be sad to see a casino close while being excited about the next chapter in the history of that land.

Las Vegas August Weather Outlook

August is the slow beginning of the seasonal cooldown. According to the Accuweather monthly outlook high temperatures in Las Vegas will start in the hundreds and decrease into the mid-90s by the end of the month. August is still monsoon season in Las Vegas so there can be a blast of rain at any time.

This slight dip in temperature shouldn’t change any summer plans. Pool season will continue beyond Labor Day in Sept.

Visitors should still make sure they’re hydrated inside and out. Drink plenty of water and make sure to apply moisturizer and lip balm.
