January is one of the months when it feels like there are more people in Las Vegas for conventions than vacation.
Though the numbers don’t quite add up that way, three of the largest conventions of the year take place in January, and that’s just the tip of the convention iceberg.
CES (electronics), World of Concrete (construction) and the SHOT show (guns) are all here this month, and collectively they will bring more than a quarter million people to Las Vegas. Another 35,000 or so workers in the adult entertainment industry descend on Sin City each January for the AVN/AEE convention.
Temperatures should be pleasantly cool during the days and bordering on frigid at nights, according to Accuweather. High temperatures should reach into the 70s while nighttime lows flirt with freezing. Be prepared to see a lot of shivering among people waiting for their rideshares.
Whether you’re visiting Las Vegas for a convention or vacation, there are a slew of brand-new restaurants. Since many convention visitors haven't been to Las Vegas since last January, we’ll highlight some restaurants that have been open for a while longer but are new from a year ago.
If you’re looking for a quick bite you can grab something at one of the casino food halls or food courts. Yes, there’s a difference.
Those of you around the convention center can find a huge food hall at Resorts World and two food courts at The Venetian.
The January entertainment calendar is somewhat limited. Electronic Music fans in Las Vegas early in the month might want to check out Anyma’s limited engagements at Sphere. Like all of the shows at the venue, the visuals are amazing.
Look ahead: Mariah Carey performs at Park MGM on February 1, 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, 15
January is a slow month for sports in Las Vegas. The Vegas Golden Knights highlight the month with nine games at T-Mobile Arena:
Jan 2 vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Jan 4 vs. Buffalo Sabres
Jan 9 vs. NY Islanders
Jan 11 vs. NY Rangers
Jan 12 vs. Minnesota Wild
Jan 20 vs. St. Louis Blues
Jan 26 vs. Florida Panthers
Jan 28 vs. Dallas Stars
Jan 30 vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
The Las Vegas Raiders play their last home game of the season against the Los Angeles Chargers at Allegiant Stadium on Jan. 5.
The only major one-off sporting event during the month is when Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF play Club América at Allegiant Stadium on Jan. 18.
Look ahead: T-Mobile will host a PBC boxing card featuring David Benavidez vs David Morrell Jr. on Feb. 1.
The month concludes with Lunar New Year celebrations throughout Las Vegas. Look for Bellagio to switch out its beautiful holiday display to mark the Occasion. FYI, 2025 is the year of the Snake.
Lunar New Year is Jan. 29 and will be celebrated throughout Las Vegas. There will be celebrations at casinos on and off the Vegas Strip featuring Lion Dances throughout Las Vegas.
Some of the casinos will have decorations for most of the month. The Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Garden will swap out its holiday display for the Lunar New Year on Jan. 11. The space will be closed from Jan. 5-10 while the changeover occurs.
The Venetian will have decorations throughout the property including the Grand Canal Shoppes and Palazzo Tower. The latter will have the largest individual display. And you can expect other hotels around town to decorate accordingly.
Look ahead: Resorts World will have its Lion Dance on Feb. 1 at 6 pm.
