The latest figures from the Maryland Lottery & Gaming Control Agency reveal that the state’s casinos collected $173.9 million in revenue during August 2024. The $12.5 million in revenues generated during the period represent a 7.8% year-on-year increase compared to August 2023, when the state reported $161.4 million in revenue.
With Fiscal Year 2025 starting in July, August’s figures bring the FY to-date revenues to a total of $343.7 million, a 2.4% year-on-year increase compared to the $335.7 million generated in the corresponding two months in 2023.
Three out of Maryland’s six land-based casinos saw August revenues grow year on year while the other three reported declines.

August revenues represent the ninth-best monthly total since Maryland opened its first casino in September 2010. The highest monthly figure reported by Maryland casinos so far is $212.9 million, collected in October 2022.
Revenue in August was up compared to the previous month as July 2024 saw $169.8 million in revenue, 2.4% less than August. Four of the six casinos’ revenue figures were up month-on-month, while the revenues of two declined.

In August, Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs) accounted for nearly $118.5 million of the total revenue. Despite having the second-highest total revenue in August, Live! Casino & Hotel led in terms of VLT revenue, with $44.5 million, while MGM National Harbor’s VLTs followed closely behind with $44.2 million. That said, Live! Casino & Hotel is home to 3,851 slot machines as of August 2024, while MGM National Harbor houses 2,290 terminals.
Meanwhile, table games accounted for the remaining $55.4 million in revenues generated in August. Table games gave MGM National Harbor the overall lead against Live! Casino & Hotel. Table games at MGM National Harbor made up more than half of the total, with $30.8 million in revenue from 212 games, while Live! Casino & Hotel collected $17.3 million in revenue, with 179 table games on offer.
August’s figures resulted in a $73.7 million contribution to the state, up 8.1%, or $5.5 million, compared to the same month last year. Of this, $53.1 million was allocated to the Education Trust Fund, while the remaining funds support local communities, Maryland’s horse racing industry, and women and minority-owned small businesses.
